Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) announced the company’s programmes to inspire young people’s interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), reaching more than 6,000 students in 2022.
Experts in science, technology, engineering, and math are crucial for fulfilling the objectives of UAE Centennial 2071 and Operation 300bn, the country’s industrial growth strategy. Around 1,500 individuals are employed by EGA in various sectors, including more than 500 UAE citizens.
EGA’s ‘engineer the future’ goes on to inspire students to continue studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by showcasing real-life applications in industry. The programme has helped more than 5000 students between the grades of 9 to 12 at around 20 schools in 2022. It is delivered in partnership with Emirates Schools Establishment.
The EGA Aluminium Design and Innovation Challenge is a practical competition that is a part of “Engineer the Future.” To take part and finish a project employing aluminium in sustainable mobility, architecture, product design, or green solutions, about 86 student teams have already signed up. In the challenge’s sustainability mobility component, BMW Group is a partner.
EGA’s Ambassador Programme, which supports university students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to consider careers in industry, reached almost 1,000 students in 2022 at educational institutions, including The American University of Sharjah, Emirates Aviation University, and Higher Colleges of Technology.
EGA’s Ambassador Programme is led by young Emirati EGA engineers and professionals.
Abdulnasser bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium said “EGA is built on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and we have both an interest and a responsibility in more young people studying and ultimately pursuing careers in these fields. I am glad that in 2022 we were able to inspire so many youths in their studies and career aspirations through these programmes.”
Additionally, EGA holds an annual industrial robotics competition wherein university and higher education students from the UAE are tasked with creating industrial robots that will be used at the company’s aluminium smelters. The 2022 competition was won by a team from the United Arab Emirates University’s College of Engineering.
