During the recent Microsoft Ignite event, AMD and Microsoft showcased the impact of AMD products, including the upcoming AMD Instinct™ MI300X accelerator, AMD EPYC™ CPUs, and AMD Ryzen™ CPUs equipped with AI engines. These technologies are driving the development of new services and computational capabilities in areas such as cloud and generative AI, Confidential Computing, Cloud Computing, and more intelligent PCs.

Empowering Azure with New AI Capabilities through AMD Instinct MI300X
Microsoft’s latest Azure ND MI300x v5 Virtual Machine (VM) series, optimized for AI workloads, proudly features the AMD Instinct MI300X, marking Azure as the first cloud platform to leverage this cutting-edge accelerator. These new VMs contribute to Microsoft’s versatile infrastructure, fostering AI innovation for enterprises globally, providing customers with enhanced efficiency and scalability options.
Advancing Cloud Computing with AMD EPYC Processors
The 4th Gen AMD EPYC processors are now deployed to operate a new generation of general-purpose, memory-intensive, and compute-optimized VMs. These VMs, introduced by Microsoft, underscore the growing demand for AMD EPYC processors in the cloud. They promise improved price options, up to 20% enhanced performance for general-purpose and memory-intensive VMs, and up to 2x the CPU performance for compute-optimized VMs compared to the previous generation. The new VM series is set to be available in public preview in the first quarter of 2024.
Additionally, at the Ignite event, AMD highlighted the general availability of the Azure NGads V620 series of VMs, a new addition to the Azure N-series family of GPU-accelerated VMs for visualization. These VMs, powered by multiple AMD technologies including AMD Radeon™ PRO V620 GPUs and 3rd Gen AMD EPYC CPUs, cater to workloads requiring higher GPU resources, delivering optimal performance for various GPU-centric tasks such as gaming, VDI, and rendering.
AI Integration for PCs
AMD showcased the ongoing success of Ryzen AI, the first dedicated AI accelerator available on an x86 processor. With over 50 systems currently available featuring Ryzen 7000 Series processors with built-in Ryzen AI, millions of AMD AI PCs are accessible in the market. AMD and Microsoft have collaborated to enable Windows Studio Effects on Ryzen AI PCs, with ongoing efforts to expand AI workloads and generative AI experiences for consumers through collaboration with software developers.
