Alexa.com, one of the leading website ranking platforms, is shutting down from May 1, 2022, said a company mail.

“Twenty-five years ago we founded Alexa Internet. Today we’re announcing that after more than two decades of helping you find, reach, and convert your digital audience, we will be shutting down Alexa.com on May 1, 2022,” said the mail from alexa.com Team.

An Amazon company, Alexa has been a go-to resource for content research, competitive analysis, keyword research, etc. for millions of websites around the world.

Alexa had stopped taking new subscriptions since Dec 8, 2021. The website says that the existing subscribers can access their subscriptions until May 1, 2022.

“We will be retiring the Alexa.com Top Sites and Alexa.com Web Information Service APIs on December 8, 2022,” says the website. Any data that has already been received from the API will not be affected. But starting on Dec 8, 2022 all data will be removed from the API. Any requests for data after that date will receive a “410 GONE” error, according to the site.

Across the world, millions of websites have been using Alexa Ranking. Many online advertising decisions have also largely been taken based on Alexa ranking.

Abdullah Karuthedakam, founder and CEO of taxscan.in, a leading portal on tax-related news, says: “It’s deep disappointment that Alexa Internet is shutting down next year. As a startup founder and a tech enthusiast, I have been relying Alexa for last one decade.”
