Amazon Web Services (AWS) free cloud skills training initiative expanded to the MENA region in order to assist unemployed and underemployed persons in the region in developing cloud computing skills and then to connect them with career opportunities at local companies. Egypt, Lebanon, and Tunisia are hosting the initial cohorts, which Bahrain will follow in the next months and more MENA nations in 2022. The introduction of the AWS re/Start MENA programme is part of Amazon’s aim to give 29 million individuals worldwide with free technology skills training through different initiatives, including AWS re/Start, by 2025.

The AWS re/Start programme assists participants in preparing for entry-level cloud computing positions. It’s a free 12-week full-time programme for unemployed and underemployed people, and no prior experience with technology is required to apply. Participants develop technical skills such as programming, networking, security, and relational databases through real-world scenario-based learning, hands-on labs, and coursework with the help of expert mentors and accredited instructors. Skills training in cloud technologies, career and resume coaching, and opportunities to interview with local employers are all included in the course.

AWS is engaging with leading universities to give training to the initial cohorts. AWS collaborates with the Information Technology Institute (ITI) and IKEN Technology in Egypt. Ruwwad Al Tanmeya will provide the training in Lebanon. RBK Tunisia will provide training in Tunisia and ThinkSmart in Bahrain.

The curriculum also prepares participants for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification and covers the cost of the exam. The certification is an industry-recognized accreditation that verifies their cloud skills. Participants can apply for entry-level cloud employment in cloud operations, site reliability, infrastructure support, and technical adjacent business support functions.

Tejas Vashi, Global Team Lead for AWS re/Start, said, “We’ve long believed in the power of skills training to positively impact people’s lives, and we are excited to extend the program to the MENA region, where we continue to invest in a variety of training programs. AWS re/Start prepares unemployed and underemployed people for careers in cloud computing. It also provides organizations in the region with a pipeline of local, entry-level cloud computing talent. As cloud adoption continues to grow in MENA, we look forward to expanding the program to more countries and helping to bridge the gap for in-demand cloud skills.”
