Barclays has chosen HPE GreenLake to supply its worldwide private cloud platform, according to Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The bank has entered into a strategic cloud relationship with HPE, in which the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud technology will play a key role in Barclays’ hybrid multi-cloud strategy and digital transformation across its global operations. Thousands of workloads will be hosted on the automated and open cloud platform, which will help the bank provide a more personalised banking experience to its customers.

The HPE GreenLakeedge-to-cloud platform will provide a single on-premises cloud experience, with capacity on demand and granular consumption-based pricing for compute, memory, and storage resources, providing the resilience, scalability, and efficiency required in today’s digital environment.

“Today our customers expect an intelligent, contextual and personalized digital experience with seamless performance. With HPE GreenLake we’re building a cloud platform that will enable the agility and operational performance needed to achieve this ambition while providing a modern economic model for private cloud,” said Craig Bright, group chief information officer at Barclays.

“Banking systems are critical national infrastructure.Resilience, sustainability and security of the underlying technology platform are the non-negotiable fundamentals that enable the provision of personalized digital experiences,” said Marc Waters, senior vice president and managing director UK, Ireland, Middle East & South Africa, HPE.

He added, “Given Barclays’ prominence as a UK headquartered global financial services leader, we are immensely proud to be chosen to provide their private cloud. Our fully managed HPE GreenLake platform provides infrastructure, software and services that enable automation, control, flexibility, exceptional experience and a positive commercial advantage.”

Barclays will only pay for the resources they use on the HPE GreenLake platform, with the ability to reserve workloads and run them on demand. HPE GreenLake Central is being used by Barclays to manage expenses, usage, compliance, and security across its entire private cloud estate – all from a single global interface. HPE also manages the infrastructure environment, guaranteeing high availability, regular patching and updates, and automation-driven infrastructure optimization.

Thousands of apps and over 100,000 workloads will be hosted on Barclays’ worldwide private cloud platform, which will offer virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), SQL databases, Windows server, and Linux. HPE Pointnext Services, in collaboration with the Barclays team, is performing the migration from legacy infrastructure to the private cloud.

HPE GreenLake provides a powerful foundation for speeding digital transformation by delivering cloud services that can run on-premises, at the edge, or in a colocation facility. HPE GreenLake has grown to a total contract value of $5.7 billion USD, with 900 partners selling the platform and 1,250 enterprise customers from all industries and sizes across 50 countries, including Fortune 500 companies, government and public sector organisations, and small and midmarket businesses.
