Cisco Launches Secure Cloud-Native App Solution

Share

Cisco has introduced Cisco Secure Application, formerly known as Security Insights for Cloud Native Application Observability, on its Full-Stack Observability Platform. This launch enables organizations to seamlessly merge their application and security teams, fostering secure development and deployment of contemporary applications. Cisco Secure Application’s latest iteration not only aids in the secure management of cloud-native applications but also hybrid ones.

In the ongoing quest to provide frictionless digital experiences, IT teams have been compelled to pivot toward modern, distributed applications. However, a recent Cisco study reveals that 92% of global technologists acknowledge that the rush to innovate rapidly in response to evolving customer needs has often compromised robust application security during the software development process.

This precarious situation has exposed companies to security vulnerabilities and threats, enlarging their attack surfaces and introducing gaps in their application security defenses due to disjointed teams struggling to attain visibility and the necessary business context for prioritizing vulnerabilities. Consequently, organizations are grappling with a surge in security incidents in the contemporary landscape, endangering customer data and business reputation.

To address the security of cloud-native applications, Cisco’s newly launched Cisco Secure Application, now available on the Cisco Full-Stack Observability Platform, equips businesses with augmented visibility and intelligent insights into business risks across cloud environments. This empowers organizations to promptly prioritize and respond to security risks that can impact revenue and reputation, ultimately reducing their overall risk profiles.

Cisco Secure Application integrates seamlessly with Cisco’s industry-leading security products, allowing customers to:

– Identify and spotlight security issues across various application components, including services, workloads, pods, containers, and business transactions, and swiftly isolate them.

– Prioritize issues using a business risk score that amalgamates application performance data and business context, drawing from Cisco’s Cloud Native Application Observability. It also incorporates real-time vulnerability detection and security intelligence from Cisco’s security products to identify the highest-risk business transactions.

– Expedite response times to security incidents with real-time remediation guidance, including actionable steps to prioritize and address the most impactful security vulnerabilities.

Ronak Desai, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cisco Full-Stack Observability and AppDynamics, emphasized the increasing importance of application security and the limitations of conventional vulnerability scanning solutions. Desai stated, “An organization’s ability to quickly assess risks based on potential business impact, align teams, and triage threats is entirely dependent on understanding where vulnerabilities exist, the severity of those risks, the likelihood they will be exploited, and the risk to the business of each issue. This business risk observability can help IT professionals understand and prioritize those risks and is uniquely delivered by Cisco. The availability of Cisco Secure Application on the Cisco Full-Stack Observability Platform is a critical next step in our commitment to providing customers with the tools they need to deliver unmatched and secure digital experiences across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.”

Mark Leary, Research Director at IDC, stressed the importance of a unified digital infrastructure and commended Cisco’s comprehensive approach. Leary stated, “The successful digital infrastructure must operate as a concert — not as a collection of separate products, providers, and people. This requires all components — from core to edge, from network to applications, from on-premises systems to public cloud and communications services — to work as one to deliver the best digital experiences. Cisco’s extensive domain experience across hybrid and multi-cloud environments and comprehensive full tech stack oversight positions the company well to help customers bring application observability, security intelligence data, and business risk observability together. Combined, they give customers access to the critical information they need to make smart decisions about their application security.”
