Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently met with Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority, to discuss enhancing strategic collaboration in clean energy and sustainability.
The meeting focused on expanding efforts to leverage DEWA’s expertise in delivering world-class services and adopting global best practices to promote sustainable development, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a global leader in clean energy solutions.
Joint projects and initiatives aimed at advancing the UAE’s renewable energy efforts were also explored, with both leaders highlighting the importance of cooperation to strengthen sustainability goals and transition to clean energy. Al Hashimy acknowledged DEWA’s pivotal role in accelerating the UAE’s shift towards clean energy and expressed her appreciation for DEWA’s contributions to global sustainability.
Al Tayer outlined DEWA’s vision, emphasizing its alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, and Dubai’s Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These strategies aim to ensure that 100% of Dubai’s power capacity comes from clean energy by 2050, cementing the UAE’s leadership in renewable energy.
A key focus was DEWA’s contribution to global climate action through innovation, digital transformation, and public-private partnerships. Al Tayer also highlighted major solar projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park, which has a total commissioned capacity of 2,860 MW and is set to reduce over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. With 1,800 MW under construction, the park will contribute significantly to Dubai’s clean energy goals, making up about 27% of the city’s energy production by 2030.
Al Tayer reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “In line with the vision of our wise leadership, the strategic cooperation between DEWA and Expo City Dubai marks an important step towards achieving our ambitious goal of net zero by 2050. This partnership is essential for tackling climate and environmental challenges through innovative, sustainable solutions.”
This collaboration reinforces Dubai’s leadership in renewable energy and sustainability, further positioning the UAE as a key player in global clean energy efforts.
