Huawei and 51Talk, a global online English education platform with over 40 million learners, announced a series of back-to-school events across the UAE. The initiative, held in collaboration with local organizations, showcased the future of digital tools in smart education.

The program, which began last month, has already reached over 900 students through events in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujairah. More events are planned throughout September to attract wider participation from students and parents.

The UAE is reported to be at the forefront of smart education. The country has rolled out one of the world’s first mandatory AI curriculums for public schools, covering students from kindergarten through Grade 12. The program aims to provide technical and ethical skills for emerging technologies. Smart-learning tools are also being integrated into primary and higher education, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to building a future-ready education system.

Tablets are proving to be vital in the digital transformation of education. They offer portability, power, and access to e-learning platforms for lessons, assignments, and projects. Students in the UAE use tablets for interactive learning apps and digital textbooks, making them a key part of smart education programs.

Huawei and 51Talk revealed that the back-to-school events were designed to familiarize students with learning tools and digital skills. Students had hands-on experience with Huawei tablets, including:

  • HUAWEI Notes Resource Centre for managing study materials
  • PC-level WPS Office suite for projects and presentations
  • GoPaint digital creation app for creative activities

The events also demonstrated how tablets can serve as entertainment devices, potentially replacing gaming consoles while encouraging creativity.

Recognizing the need for student-focused devices, Huawei recently launched the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5 with a PaperMatte Display. The display reduces glare and reflection, offering a paper-like finish ideal for reading, writing, and diagramming.

Upcoming events include an educational day with Dubai Municipality on 15 September, followed by a special event on 20 September. One student will be selected to represent the UAE as a speaker at COP30 in Brazil.

Huawei and 51Talk reported that these initiatives aim to prepare the next generation for a knowledge-driven economy, reinforcing the importance of smart education and digital literacy.
