In a major step forward for wireless technology, Huawei and the IEEE UAE section have unveiled the ‘Imagine Wi-Fi 7 to Reality’ program. Running from January 20 to April 20, 2025, the initiative aims to explore new Wi-Fi 7 requirements, cultivate high-end talent, and accelerate intelligent industry transformation across the Middle East and Central Asia (ME&CA).
Wi-Fi 7 promises unprecedented advancements in speed, reliability, and user experience, with data transmission rates up to three times faster than its predecessor. This will transform applications from 8K video streaming to immersive virtual reality and enterprise solutions.
The program was launched in Dubai with Huawei executives and key partners from the University of Dubai, IEEE UAE section, and other industry stakeholders. Dr. Eesa Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai and IEEE Honorary Chair, commended the program’s progress, noting the extensive discussions sparked by Wi-Fi 7 and expressing anticipation for future developments.
Abdulaziz AlNuaimi, Chief Security Officer of Huawei UAE, emphasized the importance of collaboration between Huawei, IEEE, and the University of Dubai in driving industry development. “Our partnership promotes ICT talent development and innovation, helping solidify the UAE’s position as a tech leader,” AlNuaimi said.
Ryan Pan, IP Product & Solutions Manager at Huawei, presented an overview of the program’s 2024 achievements and Huawei’s wireless strategy for 2025. Pan highlighted Huawei’s contributions to Wi-Fi 7 standards and the company’s success in deploying Wi-Fi 7 across ME&CA.
Mohammad Haneef, CIO at the University of Dubai, shared insights into their Wi-Fi 7 implementation, praising its significant impact on bandwidth, security, and network operations in digital education.
The program includes two tracks: the Wi-Fi 7 Pioneers track for industry practitioners to share deployment experiences, and the Innovation Pioneer track for researchers and technology enthusiasts to explore Wi-Fi 7’s advanced features. Both tracks offer significant rewards, including the Huawei HQ IP Club Explorer Tour, the prestigious Pioneer Trophy, and participation in the Huawei Tech Carnival 2025.
Huawei has deployed over 30,000 Wi-Fi 7 access points in ME&CA, with over 180 enterprises adopting Wi-Fi 7 as their technical standard, highlighting the growing confidence in the technology.
As the first vendor to launch an enterprise Wi-Fi solution, Huawei continues to lead the Wi-Fi 7 market, securing the “Best Enterprise Wi-Fi Network 2024” Award at the Wireless Broadband Alliance Industry Awards.
