As an innovative extension of the region’s first Health Information Exchange platform, Malaffi, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) launches the Malaffi Health Portal on the sideline of its participation at GITEX Global 2022.

The Portal aims to give the community of the Emirate easy access to their centralised medical records, which are accessible via a website and application. Patients will have access to the most recent information regarding their doctor appointments, laboratory and radiology findings, medications, allergies, ailments, immunizations, discharge summaries, and more through the Health Portal.

DoH unveiled the distinctive portal to visitors in the presence of HE Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), HE Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi, HE Mohammad Ali Al Shurafa, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, HE Dr Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of DoH, Dr Hamed Al Hashemi, Advisor to the Chairman of DoH and Robert Denson, Acting CEO of Malaffi.

Malaffi has had an amazing impact on the population of Abu Dhabi since its launch in 2019, which the health portal is trying to follow.

The Health Portal follows the outstanding impact Malaffi has made on the Abu Dhabi population since its launch in 2019. Malaffi connects 100% of hospitals and 99% of all patient episodes in Abu Dhabi, making it one of the fastest Health Information Exchange (HIE) rollouts in the world. The Malaffi Health Portal promotes a patient-centric strategy that aims to improve shared decision-making between patients and healthcare professionals in the Emirate.

The app is available at the Apple App Store and soon will be available in Google’s play store too. Patients can also access it via the healthportal.malaffi.ae. They can log in via a verified UAE Pass account or with their email address after verifying key information, including Emirates ID.

His Excellency Dr Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of DoH said: “Malaffi is a key pillar of Abu Dhabi’s pioneering digital healthcare ecosystem which continues to extend in-depth healthcare value and patient-centric services to our population. The launch of the Malaffi Health Portal is a milestone designed to actively engage patients by connecting them with their medical records. DoH continues to focus its efforts to cement the Emirate’s position as a leading destination for innovation and healthcare globally. We remain committed to creating a robust and agile healthcare ecosystem while serving as a blueprint for countries across the MENA region and the world.”

Robert Denson, Acting CEO at Malaffi said: “The benefits of HIEs are endless and Malaffi as a platform is designed to provide value to the entire healthcare ecosystem and transform the way healthcare is delivered. The Health Portal is the next logical step to support DOH’s ambition to unlock the best quality healthcare through digital transformation, following global trends and meeting patients’ expectations to have improved and more convenient ways to manage their health as they manage other aspects of their lives.”

He added “As an HIE organisation, we have been thrilled to receive valuable support from the regulator of the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi, DoH, and the healthcare community to achieve our globally recognised efforts. We look forward to introducing more new features and digital health solutions for patients, providers and governments to elevate the healthcare journey in Abu Dhabi and beyond.”

According to studies, most patients forget about 80% of clinicians’ instructions after leaving a clinical setting. If patients are given secure access to this information online it will empower them to be active participants in their own healthcare.

By facilitating more meaningful dialogues to improve health outcomes, the Portal will encourage patients to be more involved in managing their health and deepen the doctor-patient relationship. For patients who experience chronic illnesses like diabetes or heart disease and frequently see many doctors, this is crucial.

A new YouGov survey showed that 85% of Abu Dhabi residents believe that having online access to their medical records will help them manage their health better and 78% said they are likely to use the Health Portal.

DOH is participating at GITEX Global 2022 to showcase the pioneering digital healthcare model of Abu Dhabi including projects based on robotic innovations, artificial intelligence and other innovative initiatives that contribute to enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare in the Emirate.
