Meta has launched the new Meta AI app, offering users a personal AI assistant in a standalone experience. Built on the Llama 4 model, the app is now available in select countries including the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Meta AI app allows users to chat with their assistant using voice or text. It supports multitasking, making it easier to interact while on the go. A visible icon shows when the microphone is active, ensuring clarity and control.

The assistant is designed to be personal, helpful, and easy to use. It can:

  • Understand preferences you share
  • Offer relevant answers based on your Meta activity
  • Connect across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp

Users can also explore the new Discover feed to see how others use Meta AI. It offers prompt ideas and lets users remix or share them, though sharing is fully optional.

Another key feature is full-duplex voice technology. This allows for more natural conversations, with the AI speaking directly rather than reading text. Though still a demo, it offers a preview of the future of voice AI.

Image generation and editing are also built in. You can request visuals through chat, then tweak style, lighting, or mood with simple commands.

On desktop, Meta AI offers a similar experience. The web version includes voice features, image generation presets, and a test version of a document editor. Users can generate and export documents or upload files for AI analysis.

For Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, Meta is merging the existing Meta View app into the new Meta AI app. This lets users:

  • Start a conversation on glasses
  • Continue it on the app or web
  • Manage devices and settings in one place

Voice control can be turned on by default in settings using the “Ready to talk” option. Meta notes that voice is the most natural way to interact with AI, and this app supports that.

Users remain in control. Meta AI only uses information that has been shared across Meta platforms. Personalized responses are currently available in the US and Canada.

The Meta AI app is part of Meta’s effort to deliver helpful, accessible AI across its products. This release is just the beginning.
