Microsoft has entered a strategic partnership with the Government of Kuwait, represented by the Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) and the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), to support Kuwait’s Vision 2035 goals. This collaboration aims to establish an AI-powered Azure Region, enhancing local AI capabilities, driving economic growth, and fostering AI innovation across industries.

This partnership is a response to the growing demand for high-performance computing and reliable access to Microsoft services in Kuwait. The new Azure Region will provide scalable, highly available, and resilient cloud services, accelerating digital transformation and intelligent cloud adoption for businesses, customers, and partners across the country. The AI-powered Azure Region is set to position Kuwait as a regional leader in AI technology and innovation.

The advanced infrastructure will attract global businesses and researchers while cultivating a thriving ecosystem for tech startups. By offering resources and expertise, the initiative aims to promote innovation, collaboration between global researchers, universities, and companies, and the development of AI technologies.

H.E. Omar Saud Al-Omar, Minister of State for Communication Affairs, stated that the partnership aligns with the visionary directives of HH the Amir, the strategic instructions of HH the Crown Prince, and HH the Prime Minister’s efforts to support Kuwait’s digital transformation. “This partnership is a transformative milestone that will use AI technologies to drive economic diversification, enhance public services, and prepare the workforce for the future,” he said.

The collaboration will also expand efforts in cloud and AI transformation, cybersecurity, and AI literacy. A Microsoft Technology Innovation Hub will be established, featuring an AI Innovation Center to tackle national challenges, and a Cloud Center of Excellence to provide guidance on cloud adoption and strategies. This will empower Kuwait’s citizens and residents with cutting-edge AI technologies.

Additionally, Microsoft will equip Kuwait’s government employees with Microsoft 365 Copilot, a pioneering initiative in the region. By integrating Copilot solutions, the government aims to improve efficiency, save time, and boost productivity across departments. Employees will be able to automate tasks, streamline processes, and access intelligent insights for data-driven decision-making. A Copilot Center of Excellence will support this initiative, helping professionals create innovative applications across industries.

Judson Althoff, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Microsoft, expressed pride in the partnership, saying, “We are excited to help accelerate AI transformation in Kuwait, driving economic growth and creating value for citizens and residents. Our new AI-powered Azure Region and the integration of Microsoft 365 Copilot will transform public services and boost productivity.”

Samer Abu-Ltaif, President of Microsoft EMEA, emphasized Microsoft’s commitment to supporting Kuwait’s digital transformation. “Our long-standing partnership has laid the foundation for a secure, integrated future for Kuwait’s public and private sectors. We are dedicated to enhancing productivity and supporting sustainable economic growth.”

Microsoft and Kuwait will also collaborate on the Cybersphere initiative, using Microsoft’s tools to improve government cybersecurity. A comprehensive skilling initiative will train the workforce in AI, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies, ensuring readiness for the future job market.

This partnership is poised to elevate Kuwait’s business environment and attract foreign investment. With initiatives like the AI Innovation Center and the AI-powered Azure Region, Microsoft is reinforcing Kuwait’s potential as a technology hub. The Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) has approved the establishment of Microsoft Kuwait, further solidifying the company’s role as a key partner in Kuwait’s digital ecosystem.
