Ministry Launches Satgate for Enhanced Maritime Mapping

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced the launch of the innovative Satgate project in collaboration with the national space centre. This groundbreaking initiative aims to harness satellite and AI technologies to revolutionize the efficiency of ship location, sea condition monitoring, and weather forecasting, thereby bolstering the UAE’s status as a premier global maritime hub.

The Satgate project is set to establish a comprehensive database of ships docking at UAE ports, enhancing the security of maritime facilities and coasts by tracking vessels that are not connected to traditional tracking devices. This transformational project aligns with the UAE’s performance agreements for 2023-2024, focusing on national priorities and the requirements of the country’s next development phase.

The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure underscored the project’s significance in advancing maritime security, boosting the competitiveness of the national maritime sector, and attracting international investors. He stated, “This move comes within the UAE’s approach to leverage its leading space technologies to achieve growth and progress across the board. Improving our tracking systems using advanced technology will enhance maritime transport and mitigate risks, which will contribute to increasing trade and transport traffic through UAE ports. Innovations in the maritime sector don’t only benefit the economy but also help us achieve sustainable development through preserving and developing the marine environment.”
