Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the Smart Assessment System for Cycling and E-Scooter Tracks, integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance road safety, optimise maintenance, and improve user experience.

This innovative initiative is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to leverage technology in the analysis of road networks, aiming to boost operational efficiency and support Dubai’s Sustainable Mobility Vision 2030. By applying the latest advancements, the system enables proactive maintenance and sustainability, aligning with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Smart Assessment System focuses on cycling and e-scooter tracks, enhancing safety and encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly mobility. The initiative also strengthens Dubai’s position as a global leader in smart, sustainable transportation and reinforces the city’s status as a bicycle-friendly destination.

Equipped with advanced cameras and sensors mounted on electric bicycles, the system allows for precise track analysis without disrupting users. It ensures comprehensive monitoring, fast performance evaluations, and the highest safety standards for sustainable mobility.

The new system facilitates proactive track assessments and supports predictive maintenance, improving resource management and reducing operational and emergency costs. It introduces global benchmarks such as the Track Pavement Condition Index, Track Asset Condition Index, and Ride Comfort Index, marking a significant advancement over traditional methods that only relied on the Track Pavement Condition Index.

The system’s efficiency is evident, covering 120 km of tracks in just four hours, a 98% improvement over traditional inspection methods that cover only 2.25 km per day. Additionally, it can evaluate 557 km of tracks within a month, improving analysis speed by 92%. This transformation in track monitoring allows for faster decision-making and better strategic planning for maintenance and asset management.

By utilizing the Smart Assessment System, RTA is setting new standards for urban infrastructure and contributing to a more sustainable and efficient transportation ecosystem in Dubai.
