Tenable has released Nessus v10.0 and expanded supported platforms to include Raspberry Pi, allowing penetration testers, consultants, security teams, and students to deploy the capabilities of Nessus v10.0 anywhere. The latest version of Nessus makes vulnerability evaluations increasingly easier, faster, and more intuitive.

“We developed Nessus with one goal in mind: making vulnerability assessment simple, easy and intuitive for everyone,” said Renaud Deraison, chief technology officer and co-founder, Tenable.

He added, “Tenable continues to invest in research and development that enriches existing Nessus functionality while bringing exciting new features to market. With v10, we’re making the power of Nessus portable and affordable with Raspberry Pi and bringing the gold standard for vulnerability assessment to anyone, anywhere.”

The security community had to react as the world shifted to allow hybrid and remote work. Business operations can now be carried out without the requirement for travel, which can be difficult for consultants who need physical access to conduct internal audits and vulnerability assessments in client environments. Consultants may easily distribute disposable scanners to customers for remote-friendly assessments now that Nessus v10.0 is available on Raspberry Pi.

While ransomware attacks continue to target unpatched and unmanaged systems, this portability and flexibility gives business security teams more visibility and control. Large enterprises can use Nessus on Raspberry Pi to examine their smaller offices and off-site environments remotely, then consolidate the results into Tenable.io, Tenable.ep, or Tenable.sc for prioritisation and reaction.

Furthermore, Nessus for Raspberry Pi lowers the entrance hurdle for students who want to start or advance their cybersecurity professions. Because Nessus Essentials can be installed for free on easily accessible hardware, the next generation of cybersecurity professionals may hone their vulnerability assessment skills with minimal expenditure, regardless of their location.

Nessus v10.0, in addition to being available on Raspberry Pi, adds new features to current functionality for all new and existing customers to improve performance and give a better user experience, including:

  • A dynamic plugin feature that reduces the footprint of the Nessus Plugin database by up to 75%, improving scan performance while decreasing scanner memory overhead.
  • A built-in packet capture feature that enables powerful debugging to troubleshoot potential scanning issues.
  • A new resource center with user-specific information that provides actionable tips and guidance based on the operations being performed.

Nessus v10.0 is now generally available for new and existing customers.
