President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has endorsed the launch of K2 Think, described as the world’s most advanced open-source reasoning model. The project involves G42 AI and MBZUAI in shaping this milestone.

He announced that the UAE continues to progress in investing in modern technologies and artificial intelligence. He emphasized that these efforts aim to drive national development, align with global progress, and ensure a better future for generations to come.

The announcement coincides with the anniversary of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s birth on 7 September. It was revealed as a tribute to his role in laying the foundations of technology, science, and innovation in the UAE.

Reasoning is widely reported as the next frontier of artificial intelligence. It enables AI not only to see, hear, or create but also to think more deeply. Experts say it helps tackle harder problems and unlock new levels of discovery, innovation, and scientific exploration.

In the coming week, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and G42 will release K2 Think. Reportedly, it is designed to be leaner and smarter, offering frontier-class performance in a compact form. The model often matches or surpasses the results of much larger models. This means greater efficiency, flexibility, and wider real-world use.

On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC), announced that the launch reflects the UAE’s national vision. He added that it strengthens the country’s position in advanced technologies and AI.

He praised the collaboration between MBZUAI and G42 AI, calling it a model of impactful partnerships that support the UAE’s development goals.

The achievement is the result of close cooperation between MBZUAI’s Institute of Foundation Models (IFM) and G42. It highlights the UAE’s leadership in combining world-class research, advanced engineering, and cutting-edge infrastructure.
