Epicor’s latest “Future of Work in Manufacturing” report reveals a significant divide between manufacturing managers and frontline workers regarding workplace morale. In 2024, 57% of managers rated their morale as high, compared to only 45% of workers. This disconnect highlights the need for improved engagement strategies to align management and employees, especially in light of the projected 3.8 million workforce shortage in the manufacturing sector.

The report also uncovers a disparity in upskilling priorities, with 91% of managers recognizing it as essential versus only 70% of workers. This gap calls for better communication and execution of training programs to prepare for the industry’s evolving demands.

Epicor surveyed over 2,600 manufacturing leaders and workers worldwide to identify key trends shaping the future of the sector. The report provides crucial insights for C-suite executives, HR leaders, and operations managers to guide their strategies for scaling and modernizing their operations.

Key Findings:

– Technological Perceptions: While 52% of managers consider their workplace technologically advanced, only 39% of workers share that view.

– Sustainability Focus: Just over half of manufacturers prioritize sustainability, with 61% of managers and 45% of workers acknowledging its importance.

– Supply Chain Challenges: Despite 75% of managers emphasizing supply chain resilience, cost and regulatory issues remain significant obstacles.

– Automation’s Impact: 73% of managers and 53% of workers anticipate job shifts due to automation, but immediate worker concerns are decreasing.

– Turnover Trends: Worker-reported turnover dropped by 6%, while managers reported a 25% increase, reflecting varying perspectives on workforce stability.
