Since 2017, the company has been cultivating a culture where every employee contributes to innovation, a mindset that is deeply embedded in ALEC\u2019s DNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During ALEC Innovation Day 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/techxmedia.com\/en\/\">TECHx Media<\/a> spoke with Imad Itani, Head of Innovation at ALEC Holdings, to discuss the company\u2019s innovation journey, robotics strategy, rapid testing approach, and how ALEC is reshaping the future of construction across the UAE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Embedding Innovation into ALEC\u2019s DNA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cALEC\u2019s vision is to be the leading innovative construction group,\u201d says Imad. \u201cOur mission is to embed a culture of innovation into the company\u2019s DNA so every person plays a role.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since establishing the Innovation Department in 2017, ALEC has built a robust framework centered on three pillars:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Managing the Ideas Portal, where employees submit and develop ideas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Running innovation programs and team challenges across the business<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attracting global partners and emerging technologies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This structured ecosystem enables ALEC to rapidly test, validate, and scale solutions that deliver measurable business value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speed of Testing: From Discovery to Site in 24 Hours<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of ALEC\u2019s most significant advantages is the speed at which it tests new solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf I meet someone at Big 5 today, they can be on our site tomorrow. That\u2019s how fast we move,\u201d Imad explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike companies that pilot technologies only to \u201ccheck a box,\u201d ALEC takes a direct and transparent approach: if a solution adds value, it is implemented immediately; if not, honest feedback is shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe worst thing for startups is hearing, \u2018Let\u2019s do a free pilot.\u2019 We don\u2019t do that,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He recalls a recent example with a conveyor technology showcased after last year\u2019s Innovation Day:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe team came to site three days after the event. We tested it. I told them, \u2018Leave it here, we\u2019ll discuss finer details later.\u2019 Their team was amazed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This rapid testing culture empowers employees from engineers to foremen to influence which innovations get adopted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scaling Innovation Across Every Project<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After years of successful pilots, ALEC\u2019s focus has shifted to scaling innovation across all projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not enough for one project to implement a solution. What about the others?\u201d Imad says. \u201cNow we audit projects to measure adoption.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This ensures innovations do not remain isolated to individual sites. Industry stakeholders have taken notice, many contractors, clients, and even government entities now attend ALEC\u2019s innovation events to benchmark their own initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven the representative from a key UAE-based government entity responsible for construction tech attended our event,\u201d Imad notes. \u201cHe was extremely impressed and wants to collaborate further.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Building a Win-Win Ecosystem for Technology Partners<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ALEC strongly supports its technology partners and helps them expand their regional presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we see value, we push our partners forward,\u201d Imad says. A key example is Max, a Japanese robotics company that ALEC introduced to multiple regional contractors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Max initially viewed the Middle East as a low priority market due to labor costs. ALEC demonstrated the growing demand for advanced solutions, encouraging the company to enter the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This collaborative approach has helped establish a thriving construction technology ecosystem in the UAE, attracting partners from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Canada, and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Robotics: From Vision to Full Scale Strategy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robotics has been a priority for ALEC since 2017, but momentum accelerated last year with the launch of its dedicated Robotics Strategy, which aims to robotize 5% of all construction activities by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe analyzed the maturity of dozens of robotics solutions and selected activities where robotics made the most sense,\u201d Imad explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During last year\u2019s Innovation Day:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>14 robotics companies participated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All were taken directly to site for testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three solutions were fully implemented within months<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, six more robotics companies joined, many referred by earlier participants, showcasing ALEC\u2019s growing reputation within the global robotics community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solutions range from drilling robots to automated pipe welding systems such as Rotoweld, positioning robotics as a core component of ALEC\u2019s operational roadmap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we first set the 5% target, we didn\u2019t know how we would achieve it.
