The UAE is accelerating its position as a global hub for clean energy<\/strong> investment through a series of projects announced and launched in 2026 by its leading national firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These initiatives highlight the country\u2019s commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions across Asia, Africa, and Europe. As a result, they are expected to drive economic growth and reduce carbon emissions to combat climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January, the UAE adopted the Sustainable Digital Services IT Guideline. This framework promotes renewable energy use, advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence<\/a> and cloud computing, and environmentally friendly IT practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy introduced the Solar Energy Self-Supply Policy during the World Governments Summit 2026. The policy offers flexible frameworks for clean energy generation and storage. It also aims to empower the agricultural sector to transition to high-efficiency power systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar)<\/a> partnered with Elite Agro to launch the first agricultural photovoltaic (AgriPV) project in the MENA region. The project is located at Al Foah farm in Al Ain. It provides a scalable model for integrating renewable energy into sustainable agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Domestically, the UAE\u2019s installed renewable energy capacity has surpassed 7.7 gigawatts. Projects under development are expected to increase total capacity to more than 23 gigawatts by 2031. Notably, installed capacity grew by 117 percent between 2022 and 2025, reflecting the success of national strategies and projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Globally, Masdar has reached a clean energy capacity of 65 gigawatts. The company is progressing toward its target of 100 gigawatts by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, international expansion in 2026 includes the 150-megawatt Quipungo Solar Photovoltaic project in Angola. The project is expected to power 300,000 homes and create 2,000 jobs. At the same time, Masdar achieved financial close on a 300-megawatt solar power plant and a 75-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system in Uzbekistan. This forms part of a broader investment exceeding $2 billion in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Masdar signed a memorandum of understanding with Germany\u2019s RWE Renewables. The agreement focuses on expanding renewable energy deployment and battery storage systems. It targets up to 1 gigawatt of capacity by 2030, with potential expansion to 2035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company also entered a binding agreement with TotalEnergies. The deal will establish a $2.2 billion joint venture to merge onshore renewable activities across nine countries in Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In parallel, Abu Dhabi-based Global South Utilities is expanding the UAE\u2019s clean energy footprint. Its projects include a 5-megawatt grid-connected solar photovoltaic plant in Berbera in the Horn of Africa. This project aims to reduce reliance on diesel and improve energy security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the company formed an industrial collaboration with Weiheng, a Chinese manufacturer of battery energy storage systems. This partnership supports the localisation of advanced clean-energy manufacturing in Abu Dhabi. It also strengthens the UAE\u2019s industrial development and supply-chain ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
