The Apple<\/a> sales forecast has once again exceeded market expectations, but the broader picture reflects both strength and underlying pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, Apple projected revenue growth of 14% to 17% for its fiscal third quarter. This is significantly higher than Wall Street estimates of 9.5%, or $102.93 billion. The announcement pushed Apple\u2019s shares up more than 3% in after-hours trading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the company also reiterated a key concern. Chip supply constraints continue to impact operations, and this challenge is expected to persist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the fiscal second quarter ending March 28, Apple reported revenue of $111.18 billion and earnings of $2.01 per share. Both figures surpassed analyst expectations of $109.66 billion and $1.95 per share, respectively. The results indicate strong underlying demand across product categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The iPhone remains central to Apple\u2019s business. Sales reached $56.99 billion, slightly below estimates of $57.21 billion. According to CEO Tim Cook, the shortfall was not due to weak demand. Instead, supply limitations, particularly for advanced processor chips, constrained availability. These chips are built on cutting-edge manufacturing technology, similar to that used in high-performance AI systems, making rapid scaling more complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mac performance, on the other hand, showed notable strength. Revenue reached $8.4 billion, exceeding expectations of $8.02 billion. Other segments also delivered above expectations. iPad revenue stood at $6.91 billion, while wearables, including the Apple Watch, generated $7.9 billion. Apple\u2019s services business continued its steady growth trajectory, reaching $30.98 billion in revenue, ahead of estimates of $30.39 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geographically, Greater China was a strong contributor. Revenue from the region totaled $20.5 billion, surpassing expectations of $19.45 billion and reinforcing its importance to Apple\u2019s global performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite these positives, cost pressures are increasing. Apple<\/a> benefited this quarter from previously secured memory chip inventory, which helped maintain gross margins at 49.27%, above expectations. However, the company anticipates higher memory costs in the coming quarters. It has forecast gross margins between 47.5% and 48.5% for the current quarter, indicating a slight decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, Apple is increasing its investment in innovation. Research and development spending rose 33.5% year-on-year to $11.42 billion, reflecting a continued focus on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. Investors are also closely watching developments around Siri, particularly potential enhancements involving external AI capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the capital side, Apple announced an additional $100 billion share buyback program, consistent with last year. The company is also adjusting its financial strategy, moving away from its earlier goal of achieving a net cash neutral position. As of the latest quarter, Apple held $54 billion in net cash, providing greater flexibility amid evolving market conditions and leadership changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, the latest results highlight a company benefiting from strong demand while actively managing supply chain constraints and rising component costs.
