Dubai Police<\/a> have urged the public to reinforce the security of home surveillance systems and internet-connected devices. They warned that poor configurations may expose users to hacking, privacy violations, and cyber extortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The advisory is part of ongoing awareness efforts by the General Department of Criminal Investigation, represented by the Cybercrime and Electronic Crime Department. It aims to promote the safe use of smart technologies. Dubai Police noted that many cyberattacks target devices using default or weak security settings, which can often be accessed through simple technical methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the authority highlighted that while smart devices and monitoring systems offer clear benefits, their safe use depends on strong digital awareness and constant vigilance. Users are encouraged to adopt essential cybersecurity practices to protect privacy and prevent unauthorised access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among key recommendations, individuals should change default passwords immediately after activating any new device. Additionally, they should use strong and complex passwords that combine letters, numbers, and symbols. Regular updates of operating systems and applications were also stressed as important to fix potential security vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Dubai Police<\/a> warned against sharing passwords or personal information with unverified sources, regardless of how convincing such requests may appear. They emphasised that individual awareness is the first line of defence against cybercrime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, residents were advised to switch off surveillance systems when not in use, especially in private spaces such as homes, to reduce the risk of unauthorised access. They were also cautioned against clicking on suspicious links or downloading applications from unreliable sources, as these may contain malicious software designed to steal data or monitor activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To support reporting and awareness, the public was directed to the e-Crime Hub for guidance on cyber threats. They can also report incidents through official eCrime channels or by calling 901 for non-emergency cases. Authorities reiterated that community cooperation plays a key role in reducing cybercrime and protecting individuals and property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
