Al Tayer explained that the project timeline began with approval in November 2023. This was followed by contract awards in December 2024 and foundation works in June 2025. Currently, the project is 20% complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, the consortium has completed over 13 million work hours without lost-time injuries. Construction of stations is progressing ahead of schedule. Bridge works are also underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Notably, the project includes the first metro bridge over Dubai Creek. The bridge will extend 1.3 km. Structural works are expected to take shape next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to projections, the project will reach 30% completion by the end of 2026. It is scheduled to open on 9 September 2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Al Tayer also highlighted the broader metro network. The combined Dubai Metro and Tram network spans 101 km with 140 trains. Since 2009, it has served nearly 2.8 billion commuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2025 alone, ridership reached 295 million. This marks a 7% increase from 2024. Average daily ridership stands at around one million, accounting for 40% of total public transport usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheikh Mohammed also reviewed the design of the International City 1 interchange station. It is expected to handle 350,000 passengers daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, he reviewed the design of the iconic Emaar Properties Station. The station will span 11,000 square metres and rise to 74 metres, making it the world\u2019s tallest metro station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The design focuses on open spaces and natural light. It incorporates warm tones and textured finishes to create a welcoming environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, other stations follow themes inspired by nature. These include air, water, earth, and fire. Each theme reflects different aspects of Dubai\u2019s identity and energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheikh Mohammed also signalled the start of the Tunnel Boring Machine named \u2018Al Wugeisha.\u2019 The machine is 163 metres long and weighs over 2,000 tonnes. It operates continuously, advancing 13 to 17 metres per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is equipped with advanced digital guidance and monitoring systems. It also includes logistics systems for material transport and excavation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, the machine is designed to handle various geological conditions. It ensures consistent tunnel profiles and reduces construction costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Dubai Metro Blue Line will connect with existing lines. It will link to the Green Line at Creek Station and the Red Line at Centrepoint Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The route extends in two directions. One runs from Al Jaddaf through key areas including Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Dubai Silicon Oasis. The other runs from Al Rashidiya through Mirdif and Al Warqa\u2019a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Importantly, the project will also connect to Dubai International Airport within 20 minutes. It is expected to reduce traffic congestion by 20%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The line will serve major residential and academic zones. These include Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubai Academic City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, the project includes new depots and maintenance facilities. It also features dedicated batching plants and precast factories to improve efficiency and quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
