The company said the updates are designed to strengthen security across AI actions and help organizations deploy AI agents with confidence. These developments were announced at the RSA Conference 2026. Cisco is focusing on addressing security challenges in the agentic AI ecosystem, where software systems not only respond to queries but also take actions. This shift is creating new requirements for AI security across enterprises.

At the core of the announcement, Cisco highlighted its goal to remove key barriers to AI agent adoption. According to the company, it is building security into the foundation of the emerging AI economy. Importantly, Cisco said it is enabling trusted identities, enforcing Zero Trust Access controls, and strengthening runtime protections for AI agents. In addition, it provides tools for security operations centers to detect and respond to threats at machine speed.

Jeetu Patel, President and Chief Product Officer at Cisco, said AI agents are expanding enterprise capabilities. He stated that AI agents are not only speeding up existing work but also acting as a new workforce. He added that many projects previously shelved due to resource limits are now becoming possible. However, he emphasized that security teams play a key role in making this workforce safe and reliable.

In a recent Cisco survey of enterprise customers, 85 percent reported experimenting with AI agents. However, only 5 percent have moved agentic technologies into production. This gap highlights ongoing concerns around AI security and trust in deployment environments.

To address these challenges, Cisco is focusing on three main pillars. First, protecting the world from agents by ensuring they act only as intended. Second, protecting agents from external manipulation or corruption. Third, detecting and responding to AI-related incidents at machine speed and scale.

Cisco is also extending Zero Trust Access to AI agents. This includes mapping agents to human accountability and securing their actions. Through new Duo IAM capabilities and integration with MCP policy enforcement, Cisco aims to strengthen governance. Furthermore, Cisco Secure Access will provide intent-aware monitoring and strict access control for agentic workflows.

The company introduced Agent Identity Management, which allows organizations to register AI agents and link them to human owners. This improves traceability of actions. Additionally, Agent and Tool Visibility enables discovery of both AI and non-human identities within enterprise systems. Strict access control ensures agents only receive short-term, task-specific permissions, with all tool traffic routed through a secure MCP gateway.

On the AI protection front, Cisco is expanding AI Defense. It is introducing AI Defense: Explorer Edition, a self-service tool for testing and red teaming AI models. This allows organizations to assess vulnerabilities before production deployment. As a result, developers and security teams can better evaluate risk posture in advance.

Cisco also introduced DefenseClaw, a secure agent framework designed to streamline development and security. It integrates tools such as Skills Scanner, MCP Scanner, AI BoM, and CodeGuard. These tools help ensure AI components are verified, scanned, and inventoried before deployment.

Additionally, Cisco is enhancing SOC capabilities through Splunk integration. The company is aiming to shift security operations from reactive to proactive models. This includes reducing alert fatigue and improving response efficiency through automation and AI-driven insights.

Overall, Cisco said these innovations are designed to strengthen enterprise readiness for AI agents. Ultimately, the company emphasized that robust AI security will be critical in enabling safe and scalable adoption of agentic AI across industries.

[9716,9661
2725,314,1051
9732
post-105649","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-global-brands","category-tech-value-chain","tag-artificial-intelligence","tag-cybersecurity-2","tag-vendors","contributor-news-desk
["GET
