Indonesia AI Roadmap is set to guide the country’s adoption of artificial intelligence across key government initiatives from 2026 to 2029, according to a presidential regulation draft<\/a>. The government believes the strategy could help boost economic growth and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the regional AI landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The draft regulation is currently awaiting the signature of President Prabowo Subianto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI Adoption Across Government Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indonesia AI Roadmap outlines a framework for ministries and regional governments to implement artificial intelligence<\/a> in priority national programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the draft, the initiative aims to support economic development through the wider use of AI technologies. In addition, the government seeks to enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness in AI adoption at both regional and global levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several technology companies, including Meta Platforms, IBM, and Microsoft, contributed to the development of the framework, according to members of the government’s AI task force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focus on Public Services<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the key applications highlighted in the draft is Indonesia’s free meals program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI is expected to help design region-specific menus, forecast food demand, monitor kitchen hygiene, and improve operational efficiency. Furthermore, the technology could support data integration and provide early warnings for health-related concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government also plans to use AI to analyze health screening data and support tuberculosis testing initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building AI Infrastructure and Talent<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indonesia AI Roadmap builds on a white paper released last year and includes plans to strengthen the country’s AI ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the proposed measures are fiscal incentives for AI researchers and initiatives to address talent shortages. The draft also reiterates plans for a sovereign AI fund that would be managed primarily by Danantara Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Indonesia continues to attract investment in digital infrastructure. In 2024, Microsoft announced plans to invest $1.7 billion over several years to expand cloud and AI services in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporting Economic Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The draft regulation states that AI-driven automation can help organizations improve efficiency while reducing operational costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, the government estimates that artificial intelligence could contribute up to 12% growth in Indonesia’s gross domestic product, equivalent to approximately $366 billion, by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, a companion draft regulation proposes risk reporting requirements related to AI deployment, including areas such as biometric data use, intellectual property protection, and deepfake management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
