The findings reveal that a Chinese app framework has been used to create hundreds of thousands of scam websites, extending the impact of consumer fraud into enterprise environments.

The issue gained global attention in 2024 when thousands of residents in the small Argentine town of San Pedro discovered that the crypto platform they had invested in, RainbowEx, was a scam. While RainbowEx became the headline, Infoblox researchers say it represented only one example of a much larger and repeatable fraud model.

According to the research, scammers have been using the DCloud Uni-App framework to build fraudulent platforms at scale. Infoblox identified at least 236,493 distinct second-level domains operating on the framework. These include fake cryptocurrency exchanges similar to RainbowEx, multilingual pig butchering operations, WhatsApp phishing campaigns, fake gambling websites, brand impersonation portals, and cryptocurrency wallet drainers.

The research also highlights the growing enterprise impact of the DCloud Uni-App scam ecosystem. Infoblox recorded more than five million attempted connections originating from 985 organizations across 25 industries. Rather than a single large-scale incident, the traffic consisted of numerous small interactions by employees who accessed malicious links shared through WhatsApp, Telegram, or social media platforms.

As a result, scams that traditionally targeted consumers are increasingly crossing into corporate environments through personal devices and office networks. This creates risks including financial fraud, data exposure, and governance concerns that conventional phishing awareness programs may not fully address.

“This is no longer just a consumer fraud problem,” said Zach Edwards, Staff Threat Researcher at Infoblox. “When scam traffic reaches work devices and work networks, companies inherit the fallout, from employee losses to possible data exposure and tougher scrutiny from leadership.”

Infoblox warns that organizations need to broaden their approach to cyber risk by recognizing how consumer-focused scams can impact enterprise security. The company concludes that if businesses continue to overlook this trend, the DCloud Uni-App scam ecosystem will increasingly expose organizations to financial losses, security risks, and greater leadership oversight.

[1595,9621
303
9732
post-106226","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cybersecurity","category-emerging-technologies","tag-infoblox","contributor-news-desk
["GET
