The UAE UN Counter-Terrorism Week<\/a> participation highlighted the country’s commitment to strengthening global security through responsible artificial intelligence<\/a>, cybersecurity<\/a>, and international cooperation. The UAE took part in the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week, held from 29 June to 2 July 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was held under the theme, “A Future Free from Terrorism: Consolidating the Global Commitment to Multi-Stakeholder Approaches to Counter Terrorism through Member States’ Leadership and Action.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, and Maqsoud Kruse, Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Countering Extremism and Terrorism, led the UAE delegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the Fourth UN High-Level Session on Strategic Capacity-Building Responses: Countering the Misuse of AI and New and Emerging Technologies, the UAE highlighted that strong foundations, trusted partnerships, and responsible innovation can enable artificial intelligence to strengthen global security and protect communities from evolving threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, at the meeting on the Review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international efforts against extremism and terrorism through multilateral partnerships. It also stressed the importance of cooperation among countries and UN entities to address global challenges. These include disrupting terrorist financing, combating extremist narratives, and preventing the misuse of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence by extremist and terrorist groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the UAE UN Counter-Terrorism Week participation, the UAE co-hosted two high-level side events. The first focused on AI and the future of counter terrorism. It was organised in partnership with India, Japan, the European Union Delegation, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second event, titled “The Growing Threat of Terrorist Use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS): Strengthening International Cooperation and Implementation,” was co-hosted with Japan, the Republic of Korea, Portugal, and UNOCT. The discussions brought together senior government officials, technical experts, and civil society representatives to identify practical measures for addressing evolving security threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the week, the UAE also highlighted the Abu Dhabi Guiding Principles on the terrorist use of unmanned aircraft systems. It underscored the importance of turning existing guidance into practical action through stronger international cooperation, information sharing, and capacity building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Al Kuwaiti said that emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cyberspace, and unmanned aircraft systems, are reshaping the global counter terrorism landscape. He added that cybersecurity remains the foundation for addressing the terrorist exploitation of these technologies. He also called for secure and resilient systems, clear legal frameworks, skilled personnel, enhanced information sharing, targeted capacity building, and stronger international cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Maqsoud Kruse said that terrorist threats require coordinated international action and sustained cooperation. He noted that extremism remains a key driver of terrorism and should be addressed through preventive measures. These include countering extremist narratives that promote hate speech and incitement, while promoting tolerance, coexistence, and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concluding its participation, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with UN Member States, the United Nations, and international partners to advance practical solutions that support regional and global peace, security, and stability. Through its UAE UN Counter-Terrorism Week participation, the country also reinforced its focus on responsible AI, cybersecurity, and international collaboration to address emerging security challenges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
