The alliance brings together industry leaders to develop and share open tools, techniques, and research that support the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

According to NVIDIA, the Open Secure AI Alliance builds on the Linux Foundation’s Akrites initiative and OpenSSF community efforts. The alliance will focus on identifying, remediating, and disclosing vulnerabilities using open technologies.

The company said open source software has become a foundation of the global economy. It powers cloud computing, financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications, government operations, and internet services. In addition, NVIDIA highlighted cybersecurity as one of the sectors that benefits the most from open source software.

The alliance believes countries and organizations face an important decision regarding AI security. They can either depend on a limited number of closed systems or adopt open models, harnesses, and tools that defenders can study, customize, and deploy.

NVIDIA stated that both closed and open AI models have a role in cybersecurity. However, it said open models improve transparency, strengthen defensive capabilities, support localized controls, and eliminate single points of failure through community-driven development.

At the same time, the company acknowledged that open models can be misused for cyberattacks or modified to remove safeguards. However, it argued that these risks also exist in closed AI systems and should be managed regardless of the deployment model.

NVIDIA pointed to the recent Hugging Face security incident as an example of the importance of open AI technologies. During the incident, closed AI tools reportedly could not distinguish attackers from defenders, limiting forensic analysis. As a result, Hugging Face used the open weight GLM 5.2 model on its own infrastructure to analyze more than 17,000 actions and help contain the intrusion.

According to NVIDIA, the incident demonstrated that organizations need the ability to inspect, adapt, and operate advanced AI systems within their own infrastructure. It added that companies and governments require open defensive tools to build security systems across multi-vendor environments.

The Open Secure AI Alliance includes organizations from cloud computing, cybersecurity, enterprise software, AI research, and open source communities. Founding members include NVIDIA, Adobe, Cadence, Capital One, Cisco, Cloudera, Cloudflare, Cognition, CrowdStrike, Databricks, Dell Technologies, DoorDash, Elastic, HPE, Hugging Face, IBM, LangChain, the Linux Foundation, Microsoft, NAVER, NetApp, Nous Research, OpenClaw, Palantir, Palo Alto Networks, Red Hat, Reflection AI, Salesforce, SAP, ServiceNow, Siemens, SK Telecom, Snowflake, SpaceXAI, Synopsys, Thinking Machines Lab, and TrendAI.

NVIDIA also addressed concerns that open AI models could increase security risks. The company said openness should be supported by strong safeguards, clear rules against misuse, rigorous evaluation, and rapid remediation. It added that cybersecurity benefits when more defenders can test, verify, and strengthen AI systems.

Furthermore, NVIDIA said AI safety depends on the complete AI agent stack rather than only model weights. The company noted that AI agents require identity controls, permissions, harnesses, guardrails, logging, and evaluation frameworks to ensure secure deployment.

To support these efforts, NVIDIA is contributing open models, model weights, datasets, and agent harness research to the alliance. The company also introduced the open source NVIDIA Labs Object-Oriented Agent (NOOA) project on GitHub. The research framework is designed to improve AI safety by making agent behavior easier to test, trace, audit, and govern.

Other alliance members are also contributing technologies to strengthen AI security.

HPE is contributing SPIFFE and SPIRE, which provide zero trust identity standards that verify AI agents and services using cryptographic methods.

Hugging Face has contributed Safetensors, a secure format for storing AI model weights that prevents remote code execution, to the PyTorch Foundation.

IBM and Red Hat are supporting Lightwell, which extends security across the open source software supply chain through digitally signed patches.

Microsoft has developed MDASH, a multi-model agentic scanning harness that coordinates specialized AI agents to identify, debate, and validate exploitable software vulnerabilities.

Meanwhile, SpaceXAI has open sourced the Grok Build terminal-based AI coding agent to improve transparency and developer access. The company also plans to release the weights of the Grok family of AI models to support developers and researchers.

NVIDIA called on policymakers and regulators to recognize open AI models, harnesses, and security tools as defensive assets rather than liabilities. The company warned that broad restrictions on open frontier AI systems could weaken cybersecurity capabilities and increase dependence on a small number of closed AI providers.

It also encouraged governments and enterprises to invest in shared AI defense infrastructure, including datasets, evaluation frameworks, attack simulators, and red teaming tools.

In its closing remarks, NVIDIA said the Open Secure AI Alliance aims to strengthen AI resilience, expand technological leadership, and provide trusted security tools for organizations worldwide. The company invited governments, industry leaders, and researchers to collaborate in building secure AI systems for the future.

[9617
9812
9732
post-106568","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-news","tag-openai","contributor-news-desk
["GET
