Veeam<\/a> Vault Archive is now generally available, introducing a new archival class cloud tier designed to help organizations securely retain backup data for the long term while reducing storage<\/a> costs. The new solution expands the Veeam Data Cloud Vault portfolio by enabling businesses to move older and infrequently accessed backup data from premium storage to a lower cost archive tier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As organizations generate larger volumes of data and face growing compliance requirements, the need to retain backup data for extended periods continues to increase. Veeam said Veeam Vault Archive addresses this challenge by securely storing aged, inactive, and redundant, obsolete, or trivial (ROT) data while ensuring it remains recoverable and compliant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company said many organizations continue to store cold backup data on high performance storage designed for fast recovery, resulting in unnecessary infrastructure costs and capacity constraints. With policy based automation, Veeam Vault Archive enables customers to move older backups from Veeam Data Cloud Vault to an archive class storage tier without adding operational complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rehan Jalil, President of Products and Technology at Veeam, said, “Data powers organizations, and trusted AI requires trusted data. That means data must be protected, isolated, recoverable and stored in the right location, even when it is no longer actively used. Long term retention of that data has become a cyber resilience, compliance and cost challenge all at once. Veeam Data Cloud Vault Archive gives customers a secure, immutable, and cost effective way to tier aging backups, cold and ROT data off premium storage while keeping a trusted copy on storage better fit for long term retention.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Veeam, backup repositories are targeted in 96 percent of ransomware attacks, while 58 percent of organizations consider data residency and sovereignty the most important factor when determining where data is stored. The company said its archive solution provides immutable, logically air gapped and encrypted storage with user controlled data placement to strengthen cyber resilience and support compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solution works with Veeam Data Platform v13.1 and enables organizations to archive older backups, move large unstructured datasets including NAS backups to archive storage, and scan backup data to verify clean restore points before long term retention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veeam said customers can use the platform to move ROT data from premium storage, strengthen security with immutable and encrypted archive storage, support customer managed encryption keys, meet compliance requirements with user defined data placement, and enhance resilience through Veeam’s 3-2-1-1-0 backup strategy. The platform also offers policy based tiering and provides a cloud based alternative to traditional tape archives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Veeam Vault Archive launches alongside Veeam Data Platform v13.1, which introduces NAS Direct to Archive capabilities and expanded threat detection for NAS and cloud workloads. The company said these enhancements help organizations archive verified clean data and improve long term recovery readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
