When discussions move quickly, participants often have to choose between staying fully engaged and keeping detailed notes.

With Google’s latest addition, that trade-off is becoming easier to manage.

A New Role for Google Meet

Google Meet has traditionally focused on virtual meetings. Now, Google is extending its capabilities to face-to-face collaboration as well.

The Take Notes feature uses Gemini to capture audio from an in-person meeting and turn the discussion into organised documentation.

As a result, participants can focus on the conversation while Gemini handles the note-taking in the background.

How the Take Notes Feature Works

Getting started is straightforward.

Start the Meeting

Users can open Google Meet on the web or mobile and select the “Take Notes” button from the home screen.

Once started, audio capture begins immediately. Gemini then captures information from the in-person meeting and works on generating the notes.

Review the Meeting Afterwards

When the meeting ends, users can select the button again to stop audio capture.

Gemini then processes the meeting and creates a structured summary. It also identifies action items and generates a complete transcript.

The resulting content is placed in a Google Doc and saved directly to Google Drive. Users also receive an email containing the link.

Therefore, meeting participants can access the record afterwards without having to manually type up everything discussed.

No Separate Admin Setup

For administrators, the rollout uses existing Google Meet notes settings.

That means organisations do not need a separate setup process specifically for the new capability.

For users who want additional information, Google points to its Help Center for further details.

Rollout Begins Across Platforms

The rollout covers both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. However, availability depends on the platform.

Android: Extended rollout starting August 11, 2026, with full visibility potentially taking more than 15 days

Web: Extended rollout starting no sooner than August 14, 2026

iOS: Extended rollout starting no sooner than August 31, 2026

As a result, users may see the feature become available at different times depending on the device they use.

Who Can Use It?

The Take Notes feature is currently limited to specific Google Workspace and consumer plans.

Eligible editions include:

Business: Business Standard and Plus

Enterprise: Enterprise Standard and Plus

Consumer: Google AI Pro and Ultra

Other editions: Frontline Plus

Education add-ons: Google AI Pro for Education

Why It Could Matter for Teams

For hybrid and in-person teams, meeting documentation can be just as important as the discussion itself.

Action items, decisions and follow-ups can easily be forgotten when participants are focused on the conversation.

Google’s approach aims to reduce that burden by turning the meeting into a structured record after it ends.

Ultimately, the Take Notes feature gives teams another way to stay engaged during meetings while still leaving with a detailed record of what was discussed, decided and assigned.

[9618
460
9732
post-106830","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-editors-pick","tag-google-2","contributor-news-desk
["GET
