Nutanix<\/a> (NASDAQ: NTNX) has announced a new MCP server for its Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP), aiming to bring secure, natural-language AI automation to hybrid cloud environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MCP server is open-source software. It implements the Model Context Protocol specification. As a result, AI agents and developer tools can now interact with NCP through the Nutanix Prism v4 API.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this launch, Nutanix<\/a> customers can build agentic AI applications. These applications gain access to a robust tools layer that powers secure actions on NCP. Consequently, IT teams can speed up daily operations across large hybrid cloud environments without losing visibility or control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditionally, managing modern hybrid cloud environments has required deep technical expertise and strict access controls. However, AI assistants can significantly speed up how these systems are managed. Even so, enterprises still need certainty that AI actions are safe and authorized. This level of security matters for everyday operations, from executing major system upgrades to tracking network performance across the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new MCP server addresses these challenges. It acts as a secure passthrough between AI assistants, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Cursor, and NCP. Specifically, it translates plain-English requests into precise infrastructure API actions. At the same time, it automatically enforces existing corporate security and access policies. Therefore, IT teams can confidently automate routine operations and build custom AI-driven workflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Thomas Cornely, executive vice president of Product Management at Nutanix, automation has long been central to how the company simplifies complex cloud operations. He described the MCP server as the next step in bringing autonomous AI agents into cloud management, noting that a secure gateway between AI tools and the Nutanix platform gives customers confidence to operate and govern their hybrid cloud environments safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enterprise AI tools are only as secure as the platform APIs behind them. To address this, the MCP server is built directly on the Nutanix Prism V4 API Gateway. This allows connected AI tools to inherit NCP’s native governance and fine-grained access controls. As a result, IT operators can use AI assistants to analyze system health, surface diagnostics, and stage automation workflows, all while maintaining human-in-the-loop oversight rather than risking unassisted changes to production environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nutanix Prism V4 API Gateway handles all execution, governance, and security controls. This design supports several key capabilities. First, fine-grained role-based access control restricts autonomous agents to only the specific APIs they are explicitly authorized to use. Second, built-in throttling and metering help prevent agent swarm attacks while tracking API usage across automated workflows. Third, comprehensive auditing generates detailed logs, showing which AI agent initiated which command. Finally, asynchronous task management offloads long-running operations, letting agents track progress until completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For developers, the tool makes building automation faster and more intuitive. By providing AI coding assistants with exact system blueprints upfront, developers can instantly generate platform-ready scripts in languages including Python, Go, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, curl, or any REST and JSON-compatible format. In turn, teams can configure precise security permissions through a single interface, or build custom AI agents to automate and govern their Nutanix infrastructure end to end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Ahmed Rashad, Senior AI Specialist for Middle East & Africa at Nutanix, noted that enterprises across the region are moving quickly from AI experimentation to production-scale adoption. He said this shift makes secure, simplified operations more important than ever, and that agentic AI can help organizations move faster by turning natural-language intent into actionable workflows. However, he added that this acceleration must be grounded in strong governance, security, and human oversight to ensure operational resilience while scaling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, customers can download the MCP server for NCP from developers.nutanix.com. It can be used alongside any AI agents they already operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
