Department of Health \u2013 Abu Dhabi (DoH)<\/a> and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority (ADCDA) jointly unveiled the vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe fleet consists of 18 specialised units. It includes mobile intensive care unit (ICU) ambulances, maternal and neonatal ambulances, and ambulances built for patients with additional mobility and transport needs. Each vehicle has been purpose-built to handle specific and complex emergency cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Notably, the new smart ambulances are integrated within the Unified Medical Operations Centre (UMOC). As a result, this strengthens the link between emergency response teams and specialised medical capabilities. Consequently, every emergency case can now be managed as one connected and continuous care journey, rather than as separate, disjointed steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, said the goal is to ensure people across Abu Dhabi can access appropriate care as early as possible. She added that the new vehicles add another layer to a broader, connected healthcare ecosystem built on people, technology, infrastructure, and specialised care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Major General Salem Abdullah Al Dhaheri, Director General of ADCDA, described the launch as a major step forward for the emirate’s emergency response system. He noted that the initiative moves beyond the traditional idea of an ambulance as mere transport. Instead, each vehicle now functions as an active part of the patient’s care journey, staffed by qualified teams and equipped with advanced medical technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, further emphasised that the fleet strengthens the emirate’s ability to connect patients with the right level of care from the very first moments of an emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In terms of equipment, the mobile ICU ambulances carry ultrasound systems, infusion pumps, and ventilators to support patients who need critical care while in transit. Meanwhile, the maternal and neonatal ambulances come fitted with fully integrated incubators, ventilators, and other essential tools, allowing specialised care for both mother and baby at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For patients with severe obesity, the fleet also includes ambulances with reinforced loading platforms and stretchers rated to carry approximately 350 kilogrammes. This addition improves safety during transport and ensures equipment is tailored to specific patient needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overall, the rollout reflects Abu Dhabi’s broader approach to health system resilience. It focuses on prevention, continuous preparation, and connected capabilities that can be mobilised whenever needed.
