Qualys<\/a> has launched a new vulnerability detection tool called InstaScan. It is designed to close the gap between vulnerability disclosure and detection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

InstaScan is part of Qualys Enterprise TruRisk Management (ETM). It is powered by Agent Insta, an AI-driven cyber risk agent. Consequently, the tool enables what Qualys calls “scanless scanning.” It continuously correlates new advisories with asset, exposure, and threat telemetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The need for faster vulnerability detection has grown urgent. In the first seven months of 2026, 46,048 CVEs were published. That figure nearly matches the total for all of 2025. Meanwhile, Verizon’s 2026 DBIR report named vulnerability exploitation the leading breach entry point. It accounted for 31% of breaches. Additionally, the report found that AI is compressing attacker timelines from months to hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, defenders have not kept pace. Qualys research shows that among KEV-linked vulnerability instances that were ultimately remediated, median detection-to-closure time held at nine days. This is despite KEV-linked workload growing 78% year over year. As a result, the gap between attacker speed and defender response continues to widen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Qualys InstaScan moves threat intelligence from telling you what already happened to detect exposure the moment it emerges; that’s true proactive detection,” said Theresa Lanowitz, principal cybersecurity<\/a> analyst at Omdia. She added that threat intelligence is becoming a core variable in how organizations quantify risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agent Insta continuously monitors newly published vendor security advisories. It also tracks threat intelligence from Qualys and trusted third-party sources. Then, it correlates emerging vulnerabilities with an organization’s live inventory, telemetry, and threat intelligence. As a result, it automatically identifies impacted assets and surfaces trusted detections within minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across its initial set of supported technologies, InstaScan covers 90 percent of detections within minutes. Furthermore, the tool offers three core capabilities. First, it detects vulnerabilities at the speed of disclosure, closing the exposure window before attackers can exploit them. Second, it outpaces the AI-accelerated threat landscape by triggering detection through new advisories and asset changes, rather than fixed scan schedules. Third, it powers autonomous defense through AI-normalized, confidence-scored detections that downstream workflows can immediately act on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The speed of vulnerability exploitation has fundamentally changed,” said Sumedh Thakar, president and CEO of Qualys. “A slow vulnerability management program is now the biggest vulnerability an organization has.” He explained that detection is now continuous, driven by live intelligence instead of scan cycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

InstaScan therefore serves as the intelligence layer powering continuous vulnerability detection across the Qualys platform. It correlates newly published advisories with existing inventory, exposure data, and threat telemetry. This delivers confidence-scored detections within minutes of disclosure. Moreover, it forms the first step in a broader agent-driven detection-to-remediation workflow. It provides TruRisk with intelligence for more accurate prioritization. At the same time, it gives validation and remediation workflows a trusted signal to act on immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, InstaScan is now available within Qualys ETM. It reflects Qualys’ broader push toward faster, AI-driven vulnerability detection as organizations face an increasingly compressed threat timeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
