Dubai has introduced Click and Travel, the world’s first mobile service<\/a> that lets passport control officers process passenger entry and exit at their location inside airport terminals. The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs \u2013 Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) rolled out the service to handle peak periods and emergencies more efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The system relies on mobile devices linked directly to GDRFA Dubai’s databases. Officers use biometric verification to confirm identities. As a result, transactions are completed in just 12 to 15 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During a pilot phase running from May through August 31, 2026, the service processed 31,373 transactions. This early success highlighted its ability to ease congestion during busy travel windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Furthermore, Click and Travel allows officers to move beyond fixed checkpoints. Consequently, airport teams gain more flexibility to manage passenger flow, allocate staff and respond to sudden surges in traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The departure service already covers all passengers, including UAE citizens, residents and visitors. However, the arrival service is currently limited to citizens and residents. Officials plan to expand it further based on operational needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director-General of GDRFA Dubai, explained that the initiative marks a shift in approach. Rather than simply refining existing procedures, the goal is to redesign the entire passenger experience. “We place people at the heart of the development process and harness advanced technologies to create an easier and more efficient travel experience,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Al Marri also noted that surpassing 31,000 transactions confirms the system is ready for wider rollout. Therefore, GDRFA Dubai plans to continue developing and scaling the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition, Major General Talal Ahmed Al Shanqiti, Assistant Director-General for Air Ports at GDRFA Dubai, said bringing services directly to travelers speeds up response times. It also reduces waiting points while maintaining strong security standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, Colonel Expert Khalid Bin Mediya Al Falasi, Assistant Director-General for Digital Services, emphasized that the service blends digital infrastructure with hands-on field operations. This combination lets officers securely verify traveler data on the spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Looking ahead, GDRFA Dubai is considering additional mobile-based services beyond passport control. Any expansion will depend on operational and security approvals.
