A delegation from the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), the research-based artificial intelligence (AI) university, discussed potential collaboration opportunities with Egypt\u2019s educational institutions during a recent visit to the country. Organized by Egypt\u2019s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the UAE Embassy in Cairo, the delegation highlighted the importance of the exchange of students and knowledge in the field of AI, to provide reciprocal benefits for the UAE<\/a> and Egypt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Led\nby Professor Ling Shao, Executive Vice President and Provost, Assistant Professor\nDr. Hang Dai, and Reem Al Orfali, Director of Student Affairs, the MBZUAI delegation\nmet with representatives from the Supreme Council of Universities to\ndemonstrate the breadth of the University\u2019s education and research facilities.\nThe meeting emphasized the value of enabling both countries\u2019 plans to develop\nAI capacity for economic and societal empowerment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussions\nwith the Supreme Council of Universities, as well as University deans, head of departments,\nand faculty members during the visit included joint research projects that\nwould further the use of AI in healthcare and Arabic language processing\namongst other fields, creating joint AI labs and a collaborative AI competition,\nexchanging professors, co-advising students, and the potential for summer and\nwinter schools in AI, as well as exploring the scope for offering dual or joint\ndegrees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ndelegation stated MBZUAI\u2019s eagerness to work with Egypt\u2019s universities as a\ncollaborator and co-advisor, inviting educators to take advantage of the\nUniversity\u2019s strong faculty and research capabilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor\nLing Shao, Executive Vice\nPresident and Provost, MBZUAI, said: \u201cArtificial Intelligence has an important\nrole to play in building sustainable communities and sustained economic growth.\nPartnerships are an essential component of achieving this. A collaborative\napproach to AI problem solving and education will empower society\u2019s prowess, something\nthat is at the core of what the University aspires to achieve.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\naddition, the delegation visited Cairo University, Ain Shams University, A.U.C\nUniversity, and Alexandria University, to showcase the University\u2019s Master\u2019s and Doctorate programs.\nEgyptian students currently enrolled in relevant Science, Technology,\nEngineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields \u2013 such as engineering and computer science\n\u2013 had the opportunity to learn more about the University, which will welcome\nits first class of graduate students in August 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MBZUAI\nwill offer Master of Science (MSc) and PhD level programs while also engaging\npolicymakers and businesses around the world so that AI is harnessed as a force\nfor positive transformation. The University has already begun the process of\nvetting the applications for the 2020 intake, with over 1,000 applications\nreviewed and in the final stage of evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate\nstudents can apply to MBZUAI via the University\u2019s\nwebsite for 2020 registration. The first class of graduate students will\ncommence coursework at MBZUAI\u2019s Masdar City campus\nin August 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nUniversity will provide all admitted students with a full scholarship, plus\nbenefits such as a monthly allowance, health insurance, and accommodation.\nMBZUAI will work with leading local and global companies to secure internships,\nand will also assist students in finding employment opportunities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
