There was a time in the not so distant past\nwhen the function of IT within an organization was considered an operational\nformality rather than a driver of competitive advantage. Nowadays, technology\nis no stranger to the boardroom agenda. In fact, it\u2019s a regular fixture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the ways in which technology can help an\norganization are almost infinite, there are three areas I see many businesses\nfocusing on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first is ensuring business continuity. This\ncan be viewed as \u2018keeping the lights on\u2019 but it\u2019s more about providing a\nfoundation that allows the business to operate as close to its maximum output\nas possible at all times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second is investing in cybersecurity \u2013\nparticularly to minimize the risk and impact of ransomware attacks. While\nlinked to business continuity, there are longer-term impacts for organizations\nto consider such as reputational damage and a loss of customer confidence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, organizations need their data to be\navailable at all times. The crucial distinction is that when we talk about\n\u2018availability\u2019, we are talking about data being accessible to the right people\nat the right time and in the right place, as well as being protected and\nrecoverable at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business as usual<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veeam\u2019s 2019\nCloud Data Management Report<\/a> found that three-quarters of\norganizations are looking to adopt Cloud Data Management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two thirds of those surveyed cited stability as\none of the key benefits they expected from an investment in technology. Four\nout of five said they needed to see an uptick in productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This nicely summarizes the role technology\nplays in ensuring business continuity. Stability is key for any organization,\nespecially during periods of uncertainty caused by factors the business has no\ncontrol over. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, as businesses look to transform\ndigitally, they need a stable foundation on which to base the associated shift\nin working and cultural practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondly, businesses have to ensure that they\nare in a position to recover immediately when an attack takes hold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restoring mission-critical apps and\ncommunication functions means the business can swiftly deal with the\nreputational damage that comes with a cyber-attack \u2013 keeping customer\nconfidence intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open all hours<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ability for businesses to recover\nmission-critical operations is important beyond protecting against the threat\nof a cybersecurity breach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veeam\u2019s research found that almost three\nquarters (73%) of organizations\nare failing to meet users\u2019 demands for uninterrupted access to applications and\ndata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
