Organisations are in the midst of an\napplication explosion. Irrespective of sector or audience, they are being\ndefined by how fast they can deliver modernised apps and services that\ndifferentiate their business and enhance the user experience. There are, in\nessence, six steps that enterprises should take to create the ideal environment\nto master the app explosion transforming their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Completely\nsecure \u2013 no matter where an application is deployed<\/strong>. In a\nworld where applications and data exist as much outside the corporate network as\nthey do within it, that means a new approach to security, one where it is\nintrinsically built in and not bolted on. Modern-day security requires an investment shift away from trying to prevent breaches\nat all costs and towards building intrinsic security into everything \u2013 the\napplication, the network, essentially everything that connects and carries\ndata.\n<\/li>
  2. Consistent management of\napplications, regardless of where they\u2019re deployed<\/strong>. To\nremove the need for specific skills, IT needs to be able to manage applications\nacross different types of cloud, from data center, to public, to the edge. This\nneeds to be agile, efficient and automated to ensure that IT teams can run\napplications and their environments in a consistent manner. Having this ability\nmeans having\nthe visibility, operations, automation, security and governance to\nmanage and operate their systems and apps, even across\nmultiple cloud environments.\n<\/li>
  3. Ensure\napplications are portable from cloud to cloud without refactoring<\/strong>.\nThere are multiple ways to move applications across developer platforms,\nwithout costly refactoring  \u2013 from re-platforming\nto adopting a multi-tier approach, which sees the application split (for\ninstance, with a front-end in a public cloud, and the data kept on-premises),\nto building cloud-native applications from scratch, or deploying a\nsoftware-as-a-service version. The key to all of these is having consistency\nacross operations and infrastructure. <\/li>
  4. One\nset of tools, for one set of environments<\/strong> \u2013\ndovetailing with consistent management, having one set of tools, on a common\nplatform, to build and manage the entire application portfolio across all\nenvironments removes the need for vendor or cloud specific teams, reduces\ncomplexity \u2013 and provides the necessary visibility required across multiple\nenvironments.  <\/li>
  5. Promoting collaboration\nbetween developers and operations<\/strong> \u2013 Developers need access to the tools and\nenvironments that are going to help them do their jobs. Operations teams are\nlooking for a straight way to manage \u2013 continual changes are the stuff of\noperations nightmares. The risk is that if operations and developers cannot\ncollaborate, then the latter will acquire their resources outside of the\nenterprise IT structure, leading to potential security risks. With applications\nso critical to business success, getting developers and operations on the same\npage is now an absolute imperative. <\/li>
  6. Empower developers to\nbuild and deploy applications to any public cloud<\/strong> \u2013 Users want\nexperiences rapidly, and the delivery of the applications and services\nproviding those interactions needs to match that pace. To deliver that,\ndevelopers need a common platform that means they can build applications\nanywhere and then deploy them in any environments. Kubernetes is clearly the\npreferred platform, delivering the operation of an elastic web server framework\nfor cloud applications.  81% of\nrespondents wanted IT operations to provide developer-ready Kubernetes,\nincluding cluster infrastructure and Kubernetes lifecycle management. <\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
