Etisalat and Ericsson conduct Sustainability and climate action at Expo 2020

At the Swedish pavilion at Expo 2020, Etisalat and Ericsson conducted a sustainability event titled “ICT journey towards race to net-zero.” The event was a global call to action from the Expo to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and find new methods to increase energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and address the most serious challenge of our time: the climate crisis.

Dr. Ahmed bin Ali, Group Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications at Etisalat said: “We realize the potential ICT has in reducing carbon emissions in industrial operations and accelerating the race to a net-zero future. The UAE has demonstrated outstanding leadership in taking initiatives to control emissions and increase energy efficiency.”

He added, “By providing reliable and innovative mobile networks and working alongside various industrial partners in the region, we aspire to leverage technology to create sustainable and new business models and support the UAE to reach its sustainable environment and infrastructure targets of Vision 2021.”

According to Ericsson study, ICT solutions have the potential to reduce global carbon emissions by up to 15% by 2030. The event was closely matched with the UAE’s vision and the 2030 plan for sustainable development, since the UAE was the first country in the Gulf to pledge to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

We aspire to use our technologies to accelerate the decarbonization of our economy and find new ways to combat climate change by improving the energy performance of our products, as we reduce or own carbon footprint and combat climate change.”

Etisalat and Ericsson also highlighted creative solutions and partnerships that help the global road to net-zero emissions and how technology can be used to benefit the environment during the event. Furthermore, the two firms discussed creative partnerships and solutions that promote net-zero and projects in the UAE and the region and how 5G would assist decarbonize sectors.
