The Dell Technologies 2021 Global Data Protection Index (GDPI) findings show that organizations are facing a number of data security challenges.  As a result of the ongoing danger of ransomware and the adoption of new technologies like cloud-native apps, Kubernetes containers, and artificial intelligence

According to a recent IDC poll, more than a third of firms around the world have experienced a ransomware assault or breach that has stopped access to systems or data in the last 12 months. Dell Technologies is introducing new software and services to help address these rising – and seemingly inevitable – issues by accelerating virtual machine (VM) backup data availability, simplifying management of large data sets, and maintaining business continuity while reducing reliance on day-to-day cyber recovery operations.

“While ransomware attacks can be devastating for people and businesses, accepting defeat as a foregone conclusion is not the answer,” said Michel Nader, Sr. Regional Director – Data Protection and Cyber Recovery Division – MERAT, Dell Technologies.

He added, “We understand the stakes have never been higher, and the task of protecting data has never been more complex. As the leading provider of data protection hardware and software, our portfolio addresses this growing challenge by helping customers adopt holistic cybersecurity and data protection strategy to identify, protect, detect, respond and recover from ransomware and other cyberattacks.”

New GDPI findings reveal an increased state of complexity around data protection

The 2021 Dell Technologies GDPI poll of 1,000 global IT decision-makers, including the UAE, reveals that businesses are grappling with rising data expansion and data protection difficulties. According to the survey, businesses now manage more than ten times the quantity of data they handled five years ago, ranging from 1.45 petabytes in 2016 to 14.6 petabytes in 2021. Furthermore, 76% of UAE respondents are afraid that their company’s current data protection solutions may not be able to handle all future business problems. These fears are well-founded, with over 35% of UAE residents reporting data loss and unanticipated system downtime last year.

GDPI findings include:

• Sixty-four percent are concerned that their current data protection measures are insufficient to deal with malware and ransomware attacks, and 72 percent think that the development of employees working from home has increased their susceptibility to data loss from cyber threats.

• More than half (56%) of respondents are unsure whether all of their business-critical data can be restored in the case of a cyberattack or data loss.

• In the UAE, three-quarters (75%) of respondents believe that emerging technologies, such as cloud-native applications, Kubernetes containers, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, pose a risk to data security, and that the lack of data protection solutions for newer technologies is one of the top three data security challenges for organisations.

• The average cost of data loss in the last 12 months for enterprises using multiple data protection suppliers is approaching four times greater than for those using a single-vendor solution.

Delivering comprehensive data protection and trusted cyber resiliency

Dell Technologies responds to the ever-changing IT landscape with solutions that help enterprises safeguard classic and contemporary workloads in a unified manner. Dell secures around seven exabytes of data across all major public cloud providers, making it a leader in multi-cloud data security.
