Gender diversity drives greater business success, says Huda Mohamed

Milestone Systems Frontline Support Professional, Huda Mohamed, believes that diversity in gender, background, and culture can improve the success of any organization. Read more to know about what Huda has to share on International Women’s Day.

TECHx: What inspired you to pursue a career in technology?

Huda: Being a person that loves and lives for challenges, working in an IT field and with technology fills this aspect for me and allows me to face new and exciting challenges every single day. The incredible women before me who have had to put up with all sorts of disadvantages just to prove that women are just as good as men in STEM fields, really inspire me to hopefully do the same for future generations.  

TECHx: How have you dealt with challenges throughout your career?

Huda: In my career, challenges are related to technical issues. We always need to stay updated and on top of our products, in order to identify in which areas our partners are having a specific issue and guide them through the right troubleshooting path which ensures customer/partner satisfaction at the end.  So, to be constantly learning and gaining more knowledge are the key factors here.

As a Frontline Support Professional, it is part of my job to closely monitor, configure and maintain software, hardware, and business applications. The challenges here are addressing the issues partners face, helping them, and teaching them how to solve the issue, but also sometimes we get bugs from users that we have to reproduce internally before we report it for fixes.

TECHx: How do gender balance and a diverse workforce contribute to the success of an organization?

Huda: Not everyone thinks the same way and has the same ideas so having variety in gender, background, and culture will of course contribute to the success of any organization. It’s important to take advantage of the different opinions, ways of work, problem-solving, and unusual ideas that the people within each organization would have.

TECHx: Do you have a female role model? If so, who is she and how has she inspired you?

Huda: My mother. She never stopped chasing her dreams and worked hard every single day. She is the Ph.D. holder, a University Professor and at the same time, this has never affected her role as a mother. She taught us that learning should be a never-ending process.

TECHx: What is it about your work that excites you?

Huda: We at Milestone Systems aim to “Make the World see” and work to help the communities in different areas like education, health, retail, and a lot more.

Working in Technical Support excites me because I know that every day I have a new challenge and a new issue to resolve. I am constantly pushing myself to be the best that I can be and the environment I am in, allows me to do so. It also makes me happy when our partners and customers are happy because their issues are resolved due to my contributions.

TECHx: With technology moving so fast, how do you remain updated?

Huda: I have to move just as fast with the technology.  I focus on completing different courses, certifications, and hands-on experiences. I would say the basic solution is to keep reading and educating yourself on all the new advancements as they come, it only gets difficult if you leave it for too long and assume you will figure it out at some point, technology will not wait for you.

TECHx: What’s your favorite motivational quote?

Huda: Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better. It kind of reflects my personality as I love giving my best.  

TECHx: Among all the gadgets you use, which is your favorite?

Huda: My smartphone.  I use it every day, I am sure we are all similar in that way.

TECHx: Can you give one piece of advice to young females who are considering careers in tech?

I would say listen to the feedback you receive from peers, constantly work on yourself to widen your knowledge, and with that, the sky is the limit.
