As the amount of plastic leaking into oceans could triple by 2040, governments and manufacturers are being urged to scale up innovations that could reduce, reuse, and recycle plastic, experts have announced during the recent panel, held as part of Expo Talks: Water.
“Global plastic industry leaders and regulators need to drive innovation to reduce and recycle plastic, scale up plastic substitutes, and to educate and support people to take micro-actions to drive our ocean’s recovery,” said Emily Penn, Co-Founder, eXXpedition, all-female voyages that explore ocean plastic and toxic pollution, and a partner with global technology company SAP.
Other panellists taking part in the discussion included Dr. La Daana Kanhai, Marine Scientist, The University of the West Indies; Eirik Lindebjerg, Global Plastics Policy Lead, World Wildlife Fund; and Catharina Frostad, Co-Founder, Clean Sea Solutions. The moderator was Erik Solheim, CEO, Plastic REVolution Foundation and Chairman, Afroz Shah Foundation.
