We now live in a world where we are always connected. Everything is now computerised, beginning with our computers linked to phones, phones linked to smartwatches or tablets, tablets linked to cars, and so on. In a nutshell, every piece of technology we own is seamlessly linked.

With everything getting digital, digital transformation is at the forefront of technology, business, and marketing.

But what is it exactly? And how can it help your business?

Digital transformation is the ability to use technology to change how a business operates.

With technology developing at such a quick pace, many organizations are struggling to keep up because they are not transforming the ways they operate.

But businesses that successfully make the transition are thriving!

When most people hear the term ‘digital transformation’, they automatically think about changing their business to be more tech-based. But it’s not just about adding new technology to existing processes. Digital transformation includes identifying customer needs, improving efficiency, and enhancing experiences.

Digital transformation also involves implementing the latest technological innovations like social media networks, making sure the website is mobile-friendly or creating a blog to connect with your customers.

This can be more of an organizational change than an IT change. By utilizing it, you’re making your business more appealing to both customers and investors; while increasing your customer retention rate and making your company more efficient.

What makes digital transformation challenging?

Along with the convenience, digital change carries with it a slew of obstacles.

The top three would be money, time, and motivation.

You need to make sure you have enough money to hire the people you need to make the digital transformation happen.

You also need to make sure you have enough time to make it work. If you don’t have enough time, you could end up not doing it the right way.

The last challenge would be motivation. You need to make sure everyone in your team is motivated.

Without cause, you could end up not doing it at all.

Taking the right approach to digital transformation:

Many factors come to play in implementing digital transformation. For instance, the business environment needs to be supportive of digital transformation.

It would be best if you accept the fact that your business model must evolve.

Consider digital delivery options for your products and services. Make a change to your business paradigm by focusing on your digital portfolio. Rethink your business model to make digital a priority, or go completely digital.

You should ask yourself these three questions before beginning your digital transformation journey:

1. Why am I undergoing this digital transformation?

2. How will I measure my performance?

3. What will I do if things don’t go as planned?

Answering these questions will ensure you get the most out of your digital transformation.

In my perspective, digital transformation is here to stay. It is more important than ever to be flexible and adaptable.

There are many benefits to digital transformation, including higher customer satisfaction, higher employee satisfaction, higher productivity, and higher profitability.

It’s the only way to ensure your business is at the forefront of innovation and stay ahead of the competition.
