Mr. Guo Ping, Huawei’s rotating chairman, said in a public speech that the company had improved the quality and efficiency of its operations in 2021 and that it intends to end the year with total revenue of 634 billion yuan.

“In 2021, despite all the trials and tribulations, we worked hard to create tangible value for our customers and local communities,” Ping said in the new year message.

He added, “We worked more closely with our customers and partners, and our global operations are business as usual. Our transformation initiatives and strategic investments have progressed in good order, and our overall performance was in line with our forecasts.”

“As long as we press ahead, we will reach our destination. With unwavering effort, we will build a promising future,” concluded Ping. “In the end we will not only survive, but do so sustainably.”

Huawei’s carrier business remained stable over the year, its enterprise business saw solid growth, and Huawei’s device business quickly expanded into new business categories, according to Ping.

Huawei’s priorities for 2022, according to the new year message, are as follows:

Adding value to the customer’s experience– Huawei plans to collaborate with carrier and business clients, as well as partners around the world, to create a simple, green, and intelligent ICT infrastructure that will aid all industries in their digital transformation. It intends to integrate ICT technology into operational scenarios in important industries, as well as collaborate with partners to address a wide range of client needs. The Huawei Digital Power business, for example, will produce clean energy and assist traditional energy industries in going digital by merging digital and power electronics technologies. HUAWEI Cloud will collaborate with partners and developers to deliver stable, dependable, secure, and trustworthy cloud services for its clients.

Huawei will develop a software ecosystem based on EulerOS for digital infrastructure, as well as a device ecosystem based on HarmonyOS, according to Ping. These two ecosystems will follow an open-source philosophy, allowing any software developers to utilise, contribute to, and benefit from them, resulting in a world that is fully connected and intelligent.

Huawei wants to support the digital transformation of sectors, encourage the development of small and medium-sized organisations, and enable more people to benefit from digital technologies by creating social value while improving security and trustworthiness. Huawei is already assisting local communities in the development of digital talent through initiatives such as Seeds for the Future, ICT academies, and Women in Tech, according to Ping. Through intelligent technology and low carbon technologies, the company is also promoting green and sustainable development and conserving the natural environment.

Continuing to invest and building future-oriented capabilities – Ping emphasised the need of Huawei focusing on its core business and moving away from the periphery, as well as assuring strategic investment to sustain its long-term competitiveness. Huawei, for example, plans to increase spending in areas such as core digital power technologies. Cutting costs, according to Ping, will not lead to long-term survival.

Recruiting great global talent–Huawei seeks to hire top talent from around the world and expand its teams in important areas such as software, algorithms, and computing power. Huawei will also urge ambitious personnel to go deep into science and leap headfirst into uncertain domains, according to the new year letter. In turn, Huawei will push high performers to go out into the field to tackle specific technical and business problems.
