GITEX Technology Week, the region’s largest and most significant technology event, which began in 1981 as GITE in the Dubai World Trade Centre‘s Hall One, rounded off its 40th edition in December last year.

With the debut of MacWorld for the 1988 event, GITEX (the X was added later) expanded to two halls of the exhibition venue. For several years, it has been utilizing the whole DWTC complex, which includes ten exhibition halls with a total show space of one million square feet.

The number of attendees has increased substantially throughout the years. The exhibition in the Middle East has drawn large crowds, most notably in 2009 when Microsoft unveiled Windows 7 in front of 150,019 people. The 2012 event included 60% from Middle East, 19% from Africa, 13% from America, 4% from East and South Asia and 4% from Europe. There was a 24% increase from Africa as compared to 2011.

Almost every area that contributes to economic development has benefited from technological advancements, which is why we require the future-oriented minds of our kids. As the country produces some of the world’s most innovative young minds in tech and beyond, the UAE continues to put the youth narrative at the center of its economic growth focus. GITEX YouthX, an annual event aimed at bringing young tech talent closer to the professional ecosystem, will contribute to the development of young tech talent by improving the region’s digital transformation building blocks.

GITEX YouthX has four pillars:

  • YouthX Unipreneur
  • YouthX HighFlyer
  • YouthX Bootcamp
  • YouthX Teens-in-AI

The exhibition, which will take place during the World Expo and in the year of the UAE‘s Golden Jubilee, will feature more innovative and unique events such as a “celebration of fusion of tech and creativity,” first-time speakers at GITEX, a power line-up of women in tech, and much more. As the entire IT sector anticipates the most exciting time of the year, TECHx, as the event’s official media partner, is fully prepared to cover the entire event live from the Dubai World Trade Center.
