Microsoft launches a personalized newsfeed called Microsoft Start

Microsoft has announced the launch of a personalized newsfeed called ‘Microsoft Start’ to make it easier to collect news and information content from premium publishers on one site. The software giant says the news service would be available as a website and mobile app to allow them to compete effectively with the newsfeed provided by Apple, Google, and third-party apps like Flipboard and, SmartNews.

Microsoft Start, according to the company, is built on the MSN and Microsoft News legacy by combining AI and machine learning with human moderation to help curate content.

Beginning today, Microsoft Start will make it simple to put all of your interests together in one place. The service will provide breaking news, and on-topic content on the home page like MSN does now, but Microsoft Start allows users to tailor what appears there.

The new Microsoft Start server is responsible for the Windows 10 “news and interests” experience and the Windows 11 Widgets panel. Users will see the same interface when they open a new tab in Microsoft Edge, and they may use the online interface or download a specialized Microsoft Start app for Android or iOS to access the service (the mobile app replaces the current Microsoft News app for iOS).

Microsoft Start looks to be a mixture of various Microsoft products and services, such as MSN, Cortana, and others. Cortana used to be able to learn about your interests and present the most recent news and headlines in its feed, as well as predict travel times based on your location. These features have now been reintroduced as part of Microsoft Start.

The company argues that Microsoft Start is not a replacement for MSN.com and that the specialized Microsoft News app for Windows 10 and Windows 11 will remain available for the time being.
