Nexans Telecom Systems, a provider of end-to-end telecom and data network infrastructure solutions, has introduced BRIGHTBOX, a versatile and easy-to-use splice and patching closure for aerial and underground FTTx applications.

BRIGHTBOX is a splicing or patching optical cable closure range designed for aerial and underground applications. It is designed to be highly versatile, includes smart technologies and additional security features, and comes in two sizes with 144 and 288 splice capacity. Patching options are also available, and the innovative fiber management system allows for cabling flexibility. The watertight closure is made of high-strength material to achieve IK09 watertightness and dust protection as well as IP68 watertightness and dust protection.

“As broadband demand in the region accelerates, operators need to enable fast rollout of FTTx infrastructure, whilst keeping maintenance costs to a minimum. BRIGHTBOX™ supports that providing versatile, user friendly connection with smart features which minimise ownership costs” said Arafat Yousef, Managing Director – Middle East & Africa, Nexans Data Network Solutions.

BRIGHTBOX serves as a junction box for up to 288 fibers, a distribution box for up to 32 drop cables, or a combination of drop and distribution cables. The loose tubes or microbundles can be routed directly in the organiser using the combs on each side, but a dedicated path allowing single fibre management allows you to route each individual fibre to a splice cassette.

The clamping system can accommodate up to four drop or distribution cables. Depending on the type of cable, two versions are available, each offering direct strain relief of the reinforcement elements such as aramid yarns or cable strength members, and the closure is designed to allow preparation outside the box to simplify installation on site.

“BRIGHTBOX™ also includes the latest technologies in terms of smart components – like a NFC TAG in order to access product information via smartphone, and this will also enable many more planned features to be added in future,” added Arafat.

Another major concern for operators is network security, and as an option, the BRIGHTBOX can be outfitted with a keyless locking system that can control access to the closure using a digital solution called Nexans INFRABIRD to avoid any uncontrolled or accidental opening.
