The Riverbed Unified Network Performance Management (NPM) portfolio has been updated to provide more application and network intelligence by extracting meaningful performance metrics via real-time packet analysis without requiring direct access to packet specifics. These new capabilities provide DNS insights and three new TCP metrics and more visibility into popular video apps, leading to the speedier resolution of typical IT issues.

Riverbed | Aternity has announced the addition of crucial visibility and reporting capabilities to its industry-leading, unified visibility solutions, which include support for popular video and collaboration apps Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

“Our goal is to support organizations striving to build high-performing, hybrid workplaces. In our recent Riverbed | Aternity Hybrid Work Global Survey, while 97% of business and IT leaders are comfortable with employees working hybrid, 57% believe gaining visibility is even more challenging in a hybrid work environment,” said David Winikoff, Vice President, Product Management at Riverbed | Aternity.

He added, “The latest release of Riverbed AppResponse is targeted at relieving many of the everyday network issues organizations are experiencing with Zoom and Microsoft Teams, as well as common DNS and TCP issues to make the network safer and employees more productive.”

The enhancements were made to the Riverbed AppResponse 11.12 version, which is part of Riverbed’s Unified NPM solution that allows enterprises to perform full stack network and application analysis by capturing, storing, and analyzing all application interactions as they cross the network. AppResponse accelerates problem diagnosis and resolution with sophisticated network and application analytics and configurable workflows, allowing enterprises to handle issues faster and provide a better digital experience for end-users.

Enhanced Visibility for Zoom and Microsoft Teams

Video usage has increased considerably in today’s hybrid workplace, and it has become a mission-critical tool for team collaboration and increased overall productivity. Video collaboration systems have a single flaw: they take a lot of data and frequently have performance concerns, especially when participants are working from home networks with minimal bandwidth. Riverbed AppResponse added complete visibility to all Zoom and Microsoft Teams media, audio, and video to assist fix this problem and improving user experience.

Zoom and Microsoft Teams media streams are now auto-detected by the AppResponse Unified Communications Analysis (UCA) module, allowing organizations to better support audio and video traffic and surface a full suite of quality metrics, including MOS-CQ, MOS-V, jitter, packet loss, new channel rate, and more. With these new details, IT will be able to swiftly address video and call quality issues for end-users, resulting in improved collaboration and user experience.

New DNS Insights for Performance and Security

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a system for mapping alphabetic names to numeric Internet Protocol (IP) addresses on the Internet. A DNS query is made when a web address (URL) is typed into a browser to obtain the IP address of a Web server associated with that name.

Riverbed AppResponse added three new DNS Insights to the Application Stream Analysis (ASA) Module to help address DNS performance and security concerns. These insights provide results for all DNS servers, a specific server, and individual DNS transactions.

Next-level TCP Metrics

The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is the network’s beating heart. It’s the protocol that almost all current applications use to send and receive messages over the Internet. The current Riverbed AppResponse ASA module provides detailed insights into TCP-based apps, similar to medical imaging. In fact, for TCP, ASA estimates over 60 health and activity parameters.

TCP Receive Window, TCP Zero Window, and TCP Out-of-Order have been added to the ASA module in this new release, taking Riverbed TCP analysis to the next level. These new TCP metrics allow NetOps users to diagnose major issues without having to dive into the packets, simplifying analysis and reducing meantime to remediation (MTTR).
