ServiceNow has committed to achieve Net-Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 in order to further its vision of “workflow a better world” — one that is more sustainable, fair, and ethical.

Prior to 2050, ServiceNow set a goal to achieve net-zero GHG emissions. ServiceNow discovered that 93 percent of its carbon footprint comes directly from its value chain (Scope 3) emissions, according to a third-party assessment1 done by Watershed in July 2021, which analysed the company’s full corporate carbon footprint. ServiceNow has built a schedule 20 years ahead of the Paris Agreement and set an ambitious aim of Net-Zero GHG emissions by 2030 by defining science-based targets that are focused on internal reduction programmes and supplier engagement activities.ServiceNow will submit its targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a partnership that establishes and supports best practises in science-based target development and independently analyses organisations’ reduction targets, in the coming weeks for approval.

ServiceNow has joined the “Business Ambition for 1.5°C” global net-zero campaign, headed by the SBTi in collaboration with the UN Global Compact and the We Mean Business alliance, to pursue ambitious climate action in partnership with UN agencies, businesses, and industry leaders.

“As ServiceNow becomes the defining enterprise software company of the 21st century, we are steadfast in our goal to create positive impact in the world,” said Gina Mastantuono, ServiceNow Chief Financial Officer.

Further said, “We’re committed to making an impact and changing the way the world works by reaching Net-Zero GHG emissions two decades early – a crucial step in the right direction.”

ServiceNow’s most recent pledge to attain Net-Zero GHG emissions expands on previous pledges made in early 2021.

In its annual Global Impact Report, ServiceNow will continue to track progress. By 2030, ServiceNow will have achieved Net-Zero across its entire value chain by committing to:

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions with ambitious targets across direct operations (Scopes 1 & 2). This is in line with SBTi’s science-based aims and what is considered required to accomplish the Paris Agreement’s stretch goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
  • Decarbonize the supply chain (Scope 3).Through a complete supplier engagement strategy that will be carried out next year, ServiceNow will begin to partner with and support its suppliers on their sustainability journeys. ServiceNow will incorporate sustainability activities into all of its datacenter programmes, such as assisting datacenter operations teams in earning their Certified Data Center Sustainability Professional (CDCSP®) designation. This certification assures that ServiceNow operators are aware of the actions necessary to ensure the long-term viability of the company’s datacenters.
  • Finance high-quality carbon offsets (verified emissions reductions) with a portfolio approach in initial partnership with Everland. Everland manages the world’s largest portfolio of high-impact forest conservation (REDD+) initiatives, which conserve animals and improve the well-being of forest people and are critical in combating climate change and biodiversity problems. ServiceNow will assist the Mai Ndombe REDD+ project in the Congo Basin, which will safeguard 740,000 acres of crucial bonobo and forest elephant habitat.

As part of ServiceNow’s continuous commitment to the environment, the company will donate one million dollars to nonprofit groups working to combat climate change and accelerate global decarbonization over the next two years.
