Shanghai Electric Day was celebrated in the China pavilion at EXPO 2020. Shanghai Electric is building phase four of Mohammed Bin Rashid Solar Al Maktoum Park, which aims to be the world’s largest and greatest solar power plant.
In his word to the attendees, Mr. Zhao Hui, the project director of Shanghai Electric, said, “Shanghai Electric is proud to take part in this phase four of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Shanghai Electric is building a 12 billion Dirham phase on a 44-square-kilometer site that combines three technologies: the Central Tower Concentrated Solar Power Plant (CT CSP), Parabolic Trough Concentrated Solar Power Plant (PT CSP), and Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant (PV), totaling 950 megawatts (MW) of clean energy.
With a height of 262 metres, the CSP-built tower in the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park project is regarded the tallest in CSP. It is only 62 metres shorter than Paris’ famed Eiffel tower. Noor Energy 1 PSC is implementing phase four, which covers a total area of 6,162 football fields. The project will save 1.6 million tonnes of carbon emissions every year once it is fully operational.
The fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, began construction in 2018, making it the largest phase ever built. By 2030, the park is expected to have a production capacity of 5,000 MW, with a total investment of AED 50 billion. It will save approximately 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions per year once completed.
