Sharjah Media City (Shams) says that it is taking a leading role in empowering young people in the digital age with its programme of media workshops, the most recent of which was held August 15 and 16. The event, titled “Content Creation for Young Influencers,” was part of a series of seminars for UAE youth, with two more scheduled for August.

The Shams’ workshop schedule kicked out on July 11 with a lecture on “Digital Content” for Sajaya Young Ladies, which focused on social media content development. The programme continues with a ‘Video Production’ session on August 17–19, and culminates with a ‘Presenting on Camera’ workshop on August 22-24.

“Nurturing and supporting talent, especially within the youth, is one of our leading strategic objectives at Shams,” said His Excellency Dr. Khalid Omar Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Media City.

Also said, “With that in mind, we are delighted to offer a series of workshops for Sajaya Young Ladies and Sharjah Children, both organizations of which aim to empower and support young people. These specialist media seminars will allow our young innovators to hone their talent and creativity and confidently make their mark in the world with unique digital content.”

“Sharjah Media City is on a mission to establish a robust and dynamic media industry in the emirate, and to that end, new media must be considered a priority – and the youth are the best equipped to lead this burgeoning industry,” H.E. Al Midfa added.

The program’s initial workshop was held in collaboration with Sajaya Young Females, a Sharjah-based organisation dedicated to the development of young ladies’ abilities and talents. The ‘Digital Content’ session, which was held online and conducted by Shams’ Media Sector Development Director Fagr Kassim Ali and Shams’ trainer Fatema Al Hammadi, brought together 55 females aged 13 to 18 years.

The session provided students with tips on creating social media content in three different categories: culinary, beauty, and interior design. Participants learned how to create a plan for making their content, draught and develop it, photograph their culinary creations, and add finishing touches in the first phase. In the beauty section of the workshop, students learned about the fundamental knowledge and abilities they’ll need to create beauty-inspired content, as well as information on set design, lighting, videography, and editing.

Finally, the interior design section covered the fundamentals of the trade, including project management, comprehending client requirements, budgeting, and editing photographed or recorded content for social media optimization.

Following the success of the first two workshops, Shams’ third workshop, ‘Video Production,’ aims to help participants understand the various elements of video production, learn what makes a high-quality video, edit film clips successfully using digital applications, and create videos from start to finish using their mobile phones.

The program’s fourth and final course, “Presenting on Camera,” seeks to boost participants’ confidence by polishing their presenting and speaking skills, body language, influencing talents, ability to think on their feet, and ability to manage problems swiftly and effectively. The series’ final class will also introduce students to presentation styles and approaches based on the “four pointers” scheme while also teaching them how to overcome their fear of public speaking and camera shyness.
