Before hosting its first game, Stadium 974 created history. It is the first fully demountable covered football stadium and was entirely built out of shipping containers and modular steel, demonstrating Qatar’s dedication to innovative design and cost-effective sustainability. The Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) gave the stadium a 5-star certification for both its design and construction.

It is a striking, brightly coloured, wholly contemporary venue. The stadium’s idea was created by Fenwick Iribarren Architects. Due to the stadium’s ingenious modular architecture, less typical building materials were needed than in the case of traditional stadium development, which helped keep construction costs low. The stadium has a capacity of 40,000 and since the stadium bowl seating is made to be naturally aired, air conditioning is not necessary. By using water-efficient techniques, the stadium uses 40% less water than a typical stadium development.

In addition to being the country code for Qatar, 974 is also the precise quantity of shipping containers used during construction. Fans at Stadium 974 will feel the cool wind as it sweeps in from the Arabian Gulf because it is located in the portside area and view of Doha’s coastal cityscape. This distinctive location honours Qatar’s long history of international trade and sailing.

The containers and superstructure will be put to use again after the tournament. A vibrant commercial district and a waterfront development with first-rate amenities for the neighbourhood will emerge.

The stadium also provides flexibility in the design to rebuild it with the same capacity in a different location or build multiple smaller venues using the same materials.

The stadium will host a total of 7 matches during the world cup with six group games and one Round of 16 knockout match. To reach the stadium, fans can use the Doha Metro to reach the Ras Bu Abboud Station (Gold Line) which is just 800 m away from the stadium.
